Virender Sehwag's poor run is continuing .He just dosent seem to be learning from his istakes and the bowlers have known his weaknesses and has got him out the same way time and again .He has averaged a mere 8.12 n his last six test innings and his ODI form is even worse .He was recently stripped fro vice-captaincy as well .Does he deserve a place in the team .if yes then why ?

he deserves a place coz on his day he can win a test match, its that
simple. he can get a double century of a run a ball and his bowling is
solid.

If other players get dropped for poor form, Sehwaq should not be treated any differently. Its about a fair selection policy and maybe he needs a wake up call.

I disagree completely, first of all who are they going to replace him
with? Sehwag is the sort of player who one day will score double
century and forget his problems, they just need to be patient, youre
insane to say they should drop him. He wins test matches, which is a
rare gift.

He may win test matches, but he won't win them at the moment

I agree with both you slogger and inzamam.
Sehwag has been given too many chances, he should be sent back to play Ranji Trophy.
Scoring double century after too many matches is a rare gift too. I agree that good performance helps win, but how much longer do we have to wait for him to use that rare gift that hes given. Gambhir can be good replacement at the moment. |

This is just a bad patch of form at the moment give him some time and space and he will deliver. Remember he has some big tons this year including his 254 & 180 his only 28 and has 12 test tons to his name averaging 50 in his test career. No matter how bad a form a player is you don't drop him if he's averaging above 50 remember Hayden in the Ashes several poor performances but Australia kept faith in him and delivered the goods after that series he scored about 8 test tons up to date. |

Not to forget hes been failing in ODI for long time too, he hasn't scored century in last 50 ODIs. Average in test career does matter but still you can't just pick the team by looking the average. A particular cricketer needs to show why hes in the team. Not all cricketers are same.

some times early on his innings luck favours him.in those kind of days he goes on to make a big one.he can really take the game away from you when luck favours him.he needs to bat well early on his innings to get back into form.once he do this he will become a real threat.

I think its time we reactivate this thread .Sehwag form has worried me ever since i have started watching him .He had been included in the World Cup only because of Dravid's insistence and vengsarkar has clearly said that .What do you think is wrong with this guy .I think its his care free attitude .

nothings wrong with him, he's just going through a bad patch. I dont know why you are worrying so much. Like every other great player his form will return. I rarely call a player great.

If he is great, what does that make the ponting's, Lara's, Tendulkers? Sehwag is a guy who based his batting on having a good eye rather than technique, he just plants the front foot and swipes and when a players eye goes that dosen't have a solid technique to fall back on, it makes it very tough to stay in the middle long enough to find form again.

..And that's why he needs a batting specialist to help him develop a proper technique. |

Sehwag will surely start in the first match of the WC. Where he bats
will be interesting though , I don't see him opening. He's not a one
trick pony , don't underestimate his tweakers - on a turning track
he'll pick up vital wickets too.

I think the World CUp will be his last opprtunity wit the bat .Even if he takes wickets its his batting which will be considered .We have better openers in Uthappa ,Jadhav ,gambhir and with some other youngsters on the fringe as well .If he dosent do well he might well be out of the team .

Yep , he's there to make runs and if he can't do it against the minnows
he'll find himself on the sidelines. I've a feeling that he's
going to come right and have a good tournament.

I hope he does because people over here believe that if he fails against Bangladesh he might just well sit out the rest of them .

Well it has been double standards in the past, and indians suffered for that in Ganguly's case, if Raina, Kaif and Laxman sit out than same should be the case for Sehwag! Ganguly is back on merit and thats the best way to play in a team.

Ganguly's exit was more a case of politics than his form. aNd Ganguly is far greater than Sehwag!!! Infact there is no comparison betewwn the two.
Sehwags's been inculded on Dravid's special request, this suggests that hell be playing the WC!! But i dont think, he will be delivering any goods!! People all arounf the world now target him easily as he has more than enough weak points!! Dont think his bowling is that good to categrize him as an all rounder!!! He needs a break

He needs to control that slashed shot over gulley - he gets caught a lot at 3rd man. No doubt though , if
he comes right , bowlers hate bowling to him. He's never going to build
an innings , like a Kallis , but he should be a little more circumspect
at the start of an innings , especially if he opens.
The dashers of one day cricket aren't expected to succeed every time , but Sehwag's failures are far too frequent of late and won't be allowed to continue ad infinitum. |

I think he deserves to be in the team simply because the prospect of a Sehwag peaking in performance at the world cup is just too good to let up. Besides, we have quite a few options to open the innings should Sehwag fail to deliver at the start of the tournament.
Uthappa has put even more pressure on Sehwag and I would expect the think tank to turn to Uthappa right away if Sehwag continues his poor run of form in the group stage.

I may have been half asleep, but I am sure he was dropped at least once. It wasn't a great knock and I still don't think he can pull it off against decent bowlers.
