I think its high time, Indian Selectors realize that Laxman deserves a fixed place in the Indian Test as well as ODI team!He can score at a very good rate yet he will not sacrifice his class!
It was shocking to know that India has dropped Laxman for their upcoming ODI series against England! How could they even consider to do such a thing!Selectors!!Wake up!! |

for some years he has been the scapegoat whenever India's batting has failed but there is no player finer to watch when he is going well

A cousin of mine went to watch a test match in Australia and the locals sitting next to him talked for the longest time about how they couldn't believe that India would ever leave a batsman like VVS out of any of their squads.
Dravid was also branded a test batsman when he first started. Fortunately, the selectors realized the truth before it was too late. Too bad that didn't happen in Laxman's case.

I wanted to ask one question:
Why does Laxman do well against the Aussies and not against other countries even though they have the best bowlers. |

Laxman's stunning performance in that outrageous win over
Australia just overshadows his other contributions for India.
He's made runs against other test nations , but they just haven't
made the same headlines.

I looked at the stats and they are quite average for both one dayers and tests. In one dayers he averages 46 against Australia while 30 overall. Pretty big difference. Very ordinary.
In tests he averages 52 against them while 42 overall. not bad but ordinary. Even most of his centuries have come against them for both one dayers and tests. |

If you average over 40 in tests , you're a tad better than ordinary lad !

A few years back he was playing in the VB series with SA I think and he scored 3 tons in a week- I agree with Clobs in saying that there's no finer to watch when he gets going.
His exclusion- politics?

I think Laxman enjoys the bouncier pitches more CC because he is tall. Anyhow, he's a very fine player. As Clobber said, he's the scapegoat of the side. If he was a constant member of the side, India's success away might have been more different because to me, Laxman loves the bouncier pitches and he is terrific against spin too.

I'll never understand Indian and sub-continent selection policies, but even with the nature of their selection methods, they must include someone like Laxman. He'd make most international sides, I think.

I would have him in the Indian test and ODI sides any day. If one is a top batsman (which he is in my opinion), then he can make it at any form of the game.

except the Canadian one where he will be fighting for his spot with class players like .... ummmm ... Bondy, most of the people in world would never understand their policies. Also the fact that there is regional divisions. Most people just want to have players from their regional area. There's also heavy favouring of players from Mumbai since selectors are like that too. Part of the reason Agarkar got so many oppurtunities. This is also why Rohit Sharma got opportunity before some other players who deserve it more. Can't wait to see VVS in action this summer always plays well against Australia whether it be here or there. Saw his century at the SCG in 2003 when he had hit 3 on the trot. Was a really good knock and he only played a support role that day because Yuvraj hit 141 at the other end.

True, however Agarkar was a beast in his early days.
