Pathan Power for Hyderabad
Injuries to openers salman butt and michael vaughan has meant that Yusuf Pathan will be playing his first game for Hyderabad Victors and if reports are to be believed he is being given a license to go all out and demoralise the opening bowlers of Blackpool team. "it is a double edged sword, if he gets going it'll be a flying start for our team but at the same time he can get dismissed early and we'll have to do the repair work straight away" sam_ahmed the team owner was quoted as saying.
sam_ahmed has also praised JP Duminy and Jerome Taylor for their superb performances against carribean blasters and has expressed his desire to witness a special knock from VVS Laxman. He has also termed Harbhajan Singh as the most reliable man in his team saying "Bhajji has bowled with a big heart in this tournament so far, he has played in every game and has taken the responsibility upon himself to lead the attack, which is heartening to see"
The Pitch for the next game is expected to have something in it for everybody... watch out for Yusuf Pathan coz if he gets going there might be some fireworks very early on in the game!!! Edited by sam_ahmed - 20 March 2009 at 5:39pm |

Melbourne spinners put Blackpool in a daze!
The last round in the JPPL for Melbourne saw Rashid, debutent Mishra and the ever reliable Murali tear apart a demoralised Blackpool batting line up. Phil Hughes and Marcus North made half centuries in the first innings to seal the match as they took an over 100 first innings lead. Bladescape said this about the match: "We'd just lost for the first time and then we lost again,we were in a bit of a disarray but thanks to this heartening performance,we should be back on the road to victory!" |

Ganguly : Relieved to get some runs.
The KKR captain Sourav Ganguly said he was relieved to get some runs under his belt and heaped praise on his bowlers and on his top 3 batsmen especially vice-captain Rahul Dravid. On the teams performance. Sourav : We played well. The wicket was a good one and it was helpful for both batsmen and bowlers. In the end we played the better cricket and came out on top. On his own performance. Sourav : I got out cheaply in the first innings although I felt good. I did not want to miss out in the second innings and wanted to contribute, which I did. I am relieved to get some runs. The pressure was building and I was desperate to get a big score. Hopefully, I will continue this form in the upcoming games. On Rahul Dravid's performance. Sourav : Fantastic really. He has been our chief architect in each of our victories. It just goes to show that even at 36 he is at the top of his game. He is still enjoying every moment of it. He is a class act and he has shown it again. Nobody should write him off. He is at no 3 in the batsmen's ratings. That says it all. On his bowling attack. Sourav : Oh well they have been outstanding. They have really done well. I am proud to have such a strong bowling attack. I hope they continue their good form in the upcoming matches. The team against Melbourne. Any changes? Sourav : Yes, just one change. Laxmi Shukla comes in in place of Malik. That's all. |

Blackpool are devastated
Blackpool manager Rhodes said to have swore at players after theyre 6th consecutive loss, some players said to be unhappy but some said to have been glad to get a kick up the arse and remember that theyre playing for intense pride and a chance to prove themselves for upcoming test world cup
So, yes it will be an unchanged team for Blackpool who are hoping for a severe improvement...

Well, I suppose it had to come sooner or later and it was the Caribbean Blasters who ended Freuchie's unbeaten run. Jacques Kallis played a superb hand for Freuchie, almost saving things with a fourth innings century but it was not to be.
That has enabled the teams behind to close up some ground and Surrey took advantage with their Middlesex connection of Strauss and Ramprakash setting up a crushing innings win over Canterbury. There was also an innings win for Hyderabad, who were too strong for sorry Blackpool despite the return from injury of Andrew Flintoff. Harbhajan Singh, more known for his bowling helped set up the win with a half-century as Mahela Jayawardene was also in the runs. There was a five-day thriller between Perth and West Yorkshire, which saw Perth hold their nerve with last wicket pair of Ojha and Shoaib Akhtar guiding them home to win by one wicket in an extraordinary game that could have gone one of four ways. Kolkata's recent resurgence was halted by Melbourne, for whom a Subramaniam Badrinath fourth innings unbeaten century helped them come through a difficult encouner at home. http://www.originalonion.com/cricketsim/pbmindex.htm |

The KKR manager dips_december said he was very unhappy with the way his team performed against Melbourne. He said, "280 was never enough on such a wicket in the first innings. That's where we gave them the advantage. When you bat first you have to ensure that you bat only once. We failed to capitalise and our bowling didn't cause them too many problems either. In the second innings it was Dravid again who held the innings together. But, you have to give credit to Badrinath. He played really well. He is a good prospect and might just be the man to fill in Dravid's boots once his India career is over."
He also said that some of his players were injured and won't be taking part in the next game. "Jimmy Franklin's out for two games and so is Shoaib Malik, for one. So we are looking at our options. Mortaza is one option and Gambhir or Chopra may drop down to accomodate Cook. Monish Parmar is also in strong contention, lets see." Team and conditions for match against Hyderabad. Ah,, finally I'll play an Indian team. Good luck sam. Pitch : 2 Outfield : 3 Bounce : 2 Team : Alastair Cook Gautam Gambhir Rahul Dravid Akash Chopra Sourav Ganguly AB de Villiers (wk) Chaminda Vaas (1) Daniel Vettori (4) Mashrafe Mortaza (3) Monish Parmar (5) Ranadeb Bose (2) I will bat first if I win the toss. VVS to be Rested for All Indian Clash!
Hyderabad Victors have decided to rest one of their key players, VVS Laxman for their crucial match against KKR this wednesday! after a string of poor performances through out the tournament Laxman has been given a game off to relax and come back stronger. This also gives a chance to both Vaughan and Butt to cement their place in the side.
sam_ahmed prasied Harbhajan Singh for his all round display which was intrumental in winning the game against Blackpool. "Bhajji has been terrific right through the tournament and he will be our trump card for the next game as well... Jacob has also been in very good form and we are looking for another good alround performance from him. He might be rested though for the game against Perth Giants" sam was quoted as saying.
On playing another indian team, sam said "it's a very good feeling to be playing against them, it's an all indian battle at the edens and we are hoping for an electric atmosphere... they are a tough side and we'll have to be at the top of our game to get through this"

Press Release:
Caribbean Blasters are on an upbeat at the moment as they are the first team to defeat Freuchie for the season. The manger was very happy and so were the players but the manager, Spin Wiz, is still not 100% percent pleased with the batting. He's quoted as saying "even the tail is having a much better time than some of the specialist bats and that is a worry." That though, didn't dampen his spirit for long as he ended off saying "All's well that ends well".

Dips : Pathan a big plus for the team.
The KKR manager dips_december has welcomed Yusuf Pathan into his team ahead of the big game against the Hyderabad Victors, for whom Yusuf has played so far. Dips said, "If you look at it, both Malik and Yusuf are same type of players but at the end of the day I am happy. Yusuf is an Indian and we all know what he is capable of. He can win a game single handedly. I am very happy with the transfer. I wish Malik all the best and hope that he succeeds for HYD and at the same time I also with that Yusuf enjoys his stay over here and does well." |

Malik welcomed in the team, Salman excited about playing at the Edens! Hyderabad Victors have welcomed Shoaib Malik in their team who has been swapped for Yusuf Pathan, team owner sam_ahmed said "Yusuf is a terrific player but one has to realise that I had picked him thinking of this as a T20 format initially, Yusuf still needs to establish himself in the longer version of the game. Malik is a welcome inclusion into the side, we needed someone like him in the middle order or even at the top who can stabilise the innings and also be handy with the ball".
meanwhile opener Salman Butt has said that he is excited about playing at the Eden Gardens, the same ground where he got his maiden international century. "i'm really excited about playing there, hopefully in front of a big crowd. It's the same venue where i got my maiden int'l century and hence it is a ground very close to my heart". salman was quoted as saying.
sam also said that it is disappointing to leave VVS out of this game but it has been done in VVS' best interest so that he can come back stronger for the remaining games.
Dinesh Kartik is also expected to get his first game, as Kamran Akmal might also be rested.

Mortaza : Can't wait to play in front of a packed Eden Gardens.
Bangladesh and KKR all-rounder Mashrafe Mortaza has expressed his delight and has said its a dream come true to play in front of a packed Eden Gardens. Morataza said, "It's a dream come true. Every cricketer wants to play in front of a packed Eden Gardens. It will be a totally new experience. If you look at it, its my home. I live in Bangladesh and Kolkata is full of Bengali's. I feel all at home over here. The atmosphere, the environment, the food and the culture is all the same. I am just loving my stay at the KnightRiders. I am getting an opportunity to rub shoulders with some big names like Ganguly, Dravid and Vaas. Sharing the dressing room with such players is also like a dream come true. I am loving every bit of it and looking forward to playing and contributing to a successful team." |

ROUND EIGHT: BIG SCORING AND LAST-DITCH FINISHES
Extraordinary stuff in round eight, although Freuchie bounced back from their loss last week to thrash Blackpool and the number 87 proved lucky for them. There was some monstrous scoring for Canterbury, for whom Dhoni and Gibbs made more than 150 and Prince also scored a century to set up a commanding victory over West Yorkshire. There was a thriller at Eden Gardens as the Indian derby provided a real spectacle while the derby in Australia saw Melbourne complete a stunning comeback with Badrinath in the spotlight again. And finally, Caribbean Blasters won again thanks to Flower power, with a little help from KP and Dale Steyn against Surrey. http://www.originalonion.com/cricketsim/pbmindex.htm |

Wow, that's certainly given me some (welcome) selectorial headaches.
You've got to be so pleased with that result, especially after the previous games effort? Oh yes. The lads were really down after the previous game, but we managed to move on and get our momentum back. The next round is a huge game for your team, are you up for it? Absolutely. Obviously missing Ryan through injury is a blow, but we've asked Jesse to step up with the ball, and taken some run scoring responsibility off him while he's in that role. Some have termed you a bully team. You beat up the teams that are lower on the table, but can't stand up to the better teams? I've never heard such nonsense. While we haven't performed as well as we would like against better teams, its because one of the opposition team step up and have a blinder, rather then use not being able to play at that level. Gibbs and Dhoni, amazing right? Well its just what i've been saying all along. Gibbsey has looked a million bucks, but he just manages to get out, or gets a pearler of a delivery, hopefully this is his breakthrough innings. Dhoni, well again, hes looked pretty good but just failed to do anything meaningfull. He's had a good break and we decided to put him in at 4 rather than Misbah, and it paid off. Is Punters form a worry? Well it is a little. He's scoring a few now and then, but as a senior batsmen we expect more consistancy from him. He knows this and is really trying, but if he doesn't step up soon there are other options. |
