Topic: West Indies in England - 2 T20'sPosted: 23 September 2011 at 6:27am |

I suppose this mini-series needs it's own thread , but it won't fill too many pages ! The 2 T20's have been arranged because of the original agreement between the ECB and Standford (who's still under investigation) -it was do this or repay a lot of money! Graeme Swann is England captain because of Broad's injury and he leads a very young side. Many of the Windies star names are absent too , so the English will start favourite.
The 1st game is today , with the 2nd on Sunday. Ticket sales have been brisk - hardy souls in England , because cricket at the end of September can be a bum-numbing affair ! |

with nothing else to do tonight and the fact that I'm suffering from high temperature I'd be happy to watch this match to pass my time, good exposure for the youngsters this esp with the WT20 coming up next year. ENG firm favorites but I'd love to see WI pull off an upset just because they are the underdogs, anything is possible in T20's!!!

Well that was way too easy. You can’t even put it down to the windies playing youngsters because that’s basically what

Sometimes I wonder why teams does bother play any fast bowlers against West Indies for. Just play anybody who turns over the arm (medium or slow pace - doesn't have to have any swing or turn) and it's easy work. The Windies powerplay was exciting, Dwayne Smith latched on to some amazing shots off Bresnan and a few shots from Charles but after that, total choas. Danza Hyatt is one to keep on eye on though, he's really strong and usually takes a liking to off spinners or anything full up on his legs.
And, bowlers definitely win you matches, and this is why England is strong. Anderson, Broad, Tremlett, Bresnan and Finn. They're all tall and got good pace. Dernbach doesn't look like he runs in much but he's got a seriously powerful action (he'll get reverse swing with deadly effect with that action). Would be interesting to see how they go in the sub continent, that's their last test. I don't see them losing anywhere else really.

Even a depleted WI, in just two given chances, have done what India couldn't do the entire summer!!!
ENG 88 all out, that was some performance in the field by the WI, they were super charged and effected 4 run outs!!! Well done WI!

West Indies still will never learn - Santokie should have even been playing some months ago. They usually think that one bowler should be in all format - Fidel Edwards and Kemar Roach should be nowhere close to a Windies T20 team. Santokie though is by far the best T20 bowler in the region. He gets the new ball to tail away and nip into right handers. He got some devilish yorkers and got some magnificent slower deliveries - just what is needed for a T20/limited overs bowler. Mathurin too is very good regionally in the T20's. He bowls the new ball and hardly concedes more than 6 runs per over.
All this is funny - a windies probably 3rd string team defeated the strongest team of 2011! Watch a game Cricket is.

At the halfway point of this match I went to bed - when I got up this morning I was more than a little shocked that England had lost it! T20 is a crazy game , but England won't lose many games chasing less than 120. This will be a good lesson for the youngsters in the side - success has been too easy coming and hiccups like this will bring them down to earth.
Well done Windies for giving it a go in what looked a lost cause - I hope the selectors give these kids a run in the side. Edited by Sledger - 26 September 2011 at 6:43am |

Playing spin is something Flower and company will have to work with!! They play a lot of cricket on slow tracks int he near future - and that won't be as easy, although the squad would be entirely different. England will have to play out of their skins to maintain their high standards - they can't afford to relax after a high just as they did back in 2005 when the tour to Pakistan right after the Ashes turned disastrous.

Zuhair is right, England's stiffest test now lies ahead, stiffer than what they found in Australia I believe. They not only have to battle with slow, low turning pitches but also the sapping heat of the sub continent. Luckily, they're a fitter side these days than before so that shouldn't affect them as much as before. It will be interesting to see how the bowlers go when there is no lateral movement or swing after the initial overs.

Santokie did look really good Spinny, He got that ball to do all sorts of things. Mathurin also bowled well and ended up with best figures on debut in a T20 match for any cricketer, 3/9 in 4 overs!!!
WI tour BAN and IND over the course of next 10 weeks or so, and they will be playing on very similar surfaces there, the WI spinners Bishoo, Mathurin, Shillingford and co. will come really handy. |

Where are the fast bowlers? WI keep producing decent spinners, but not the pacers like they used to. Nonetheless, Edwards was in awesome form vs India and Taylor is back I think. Edwards, Taylor, Roach and Rampaul are a good set of pacers. I suppose Sammy has to be picked though...
... If WI had the professionalism of the England team they'd be a top 5 side for sure, not virtually last. |

West Indies fast bowling stocks is pretty good at the moment - soon we'll be bowling back pretty well, i'm certain of it. The batting on the other hand is very very thin. |

Batting wouldn't be so thin if Gayle was picked. Simmons, Barath, Gayle, Chanderpaul, Sarwan and Dwayne Bravo isn't a bad line up by all means. WI have never looked that bad on paper, they just never play as a team.

I agree on that, WI batting doesn't look bad at all, in fact add Samuels to that list by Mikey and talented all rounders like Andre Russel and Dwayne Bravo it looks even better.
Bowling will be so much better if Jerome Taylor comes back into the team, at the moment it may be a little weak but not by much. WI should definitely do much better than what they are doing since last few years. They are just starting to show better signs now, drawing the test series against PAK, managing to draw 2 tests against India and winning 2 ODI's each in both the series'. These couple of series in the sub continent against BAN and IND now are a great chance for them to get to winning ways.
