Just why would getting rid of the longest running series in the history of the game be of benefit to anyone ? I suppose as you're Australian you're still in pain after such a thrashing as your team just received . If they go with your idea and stop playing everyone who beats them then in 2 years Australia will be playing Bangladesh year in , year out home and away - and nobody else !

Come on Sledge, after losing three out of the last four Ashes series it must be taking its toll by now! I'm all in favour of their surrender and except their white flag.

Following pressure from England's 'Barmy Army', Captain Strauss has announced that pace men Chris Tremlett and James Anderson will bowl underarm when England next play Australia . "Our Barmy Army has paid a fortune to support our cricket team, but all they're getting to see is Cookie, me, Ding Dong and Trott thrashing their pie-chuckers to all corners", he declared. Let them score 500 on Saturday morning and afternoon". |

Australia has won the Ashes on more occasions, so I would say that as an Aussie I like the Ashes and at the end of the day we've actually done somewhat better in the tussles! They bring about a different atmosphere than any other test series and the history behind it is awesome. Aussies lost 3 of the last 4 series, but it's been good for the game in some respects. The next series should be a jaffa, Australia will hopefully have picked up some form and talent, and England will surely also be a top side.

Whilst India against Pakistan created incredible interest in the subcontinent , sadly recently that's only been in one day cricket. A 5 test series (some have been 6) for the Ashes has fantastic support both in England and Australia. Now that England are actually winning again just makes the contests much more appealling - the next series in England can't come soon enough for me.

Yes the Ashes is one of the biggest bi-lateral tournament in cricket (still not as Big as an Indo-Pak series
) and its removal is something i just can't fathom . Infact I can't fathom how this Topic could come up. |

England against Australia is cricket, everything else comes a very good second. Basically, England V Australia is the root and blueprint of everything that followed and of course the pinnacle of the game. Can't remember the last time any other test teams played a five match test series?, we play them every two years.

Sounds like a troll, I've seen it on a few forums. Like I said, as an Aussie, the Ashes has treated us well and we still have more wins. So really his contention is very daft.

Whether we 'ave more wins or losses ain't t'a point, tis that it's still one of t'a most interesting encounters in modern day cricket.(This is, of course, merely my opinion.)

Ashes is one of the various Test series which has made Test Cricket alive. it should be there. And the best part is that it is a 5 test match series which is very rare..

I think his comment 'would cricket be more enjoyed by Australians' eludes to the fact that Australia lost the last 2 Ashes series in a row. The simple answer is that historically Australia has faired better and that a couple of lost series shouldn't mean the competition should go. It makes the contest more interesting...
