How come he only plays for the 3rd XI, Tom? (Sam, not Corrie)

dont want to rush him probably, If he gets knocked about then he could lose confidence but he spins it 70 degrees. So far he hasnt bowled me out in nets but he's beaten my bat more than a few times. LOL

I agree though fishy, I think that he should have been given more games. He never seemed to play badly. Plus the club is so huge. Over 250 members so our first XI is amazing.

Yeah, youhave to give someone with talent a chance. Seems even stranger when he doesn't play badly. Maybe you're right about being rushed! Big%20smile

I'm a Right Arm Off Spinner. I just recently posted a Off Spin Tutorial and a video link etc. I don't play for a club, but I will be joining soon! I can usually only Bowl Off Breaks and Top Spinners, But I can occaisonly bowl a decent arm ball. I have made a doosra land once, mind you it was 90% illegal, as I completely bent my elbow, and it was quite obvious. But it landed and got some slight turn...I still remeber very clearly. But Im working on a new Grip which I find if you Use your Middle finger and your thumb slightly......If you can get a decent amount of spin with the seam in the correct direction then it can occasionly turn a tad. but the thumb works with a flick action, it works Ok :S, but I still need a decent amount of practise..........lol, I'll probably be 25 or something, still without being able to bowl it. But then again, Dan Cullen for SA Redbacks, he has been said to be able to bowl the Doosra, and he is only 22?????

I'm a tall fast bowler who naturally gets difficult away swing, often an effective attacking bowler but a real weakness for leaking runs and bowling gimmes, which of course limits my ability to take wickets too. Although I have a nice action for pace and swing, I tend to fall away a bit which means a) I lose my line and length a bit sometimes and b) I don't get the most out of my height which is a shame because I'm 6'3" and should be able to rib-ticklers and bouncers more effectively than I do. I aim to work on standing up more next season.

RE: Legspin, I helped coach the under 10s at a big cricket club in London last season and I was amazed and thrilled by the number of keen and talented legspinners, no doubt inspired by Shane Warne the previous summer. There were kids who could turn the ball a good foot or so, which is bloody good for youngsters with small fingers, and surprisingly accurately too. If that is representative of the country as a whole, which it may well not be of course, then that is brilliant for English cricket.

My only fear is that a generation of legspinners will be put off because the culture in English cricket has a long history of not giving wrist-spinners enough leeway - it's a very difficult art and can go horribly wrong very easily, so all young spinners go through long periods of wayward bowling, not just in individual matches but whole seasons and more. Unfortunately they are often taken off early and discouraged from bowling, made to believe that the reason it isn't working is a lack of talent when in fact it happens to even the true greats when they're still learning.

That's where you get all the kids who have talent and put them in a squad and let them bowl their 4 overs or whatever regardless, even if they go at 30 an over. You keep a kid on with talent for long enough, he'll do something!

I agree, but captains in this country are loathe to do that. We don't havea culture of wrist-spin, and that has to change

The thing is, it's a case of keeping him on game after game after game, season after season, which canreally hinder a sides bowling performance, but ultimately it's important these kids a) learn their trade and b) get the confidence to bowl well, from knowing the team has faith in their ability.

It comes down to what the ECB wants out of county cricket, is county cricket there to provide players for England? or are they solely focused on winning matches?

I'm not talking about county cricket, the root of the problem is far far below that. I'm talking about club cricket, where you just don't find wrist-spinners, and where you do they're nto nurtured properly and their talent is wasted. County cricket doesn't have any wrist-spinners either.

I'm a right arm off-break bowler, I don't turn the ball especially much but I get a bit of turn which goes the right way, but my key is I'm accurate, I try to attack the batsmen and try and trick them into playing big shots and getting their wickets.
On extended leave...

If you don't spin the ball much, I urge you to work on spinning it more because that's the difference between a good bowler and a plodder, between a 'spin bowler' and a 'slow bowler'. You're right to be proud of your accuracy and yes it will suffer if you concentrate on spinning the ball, but when you've learnt to spin the ball, and I mean really really rip it, then you can achieve accuracy through repetition, just by bowling as much as you can. If you try and do it the other way, accuracy first then learn to rip it, it won't work because spinning the ball will require changes in your action and/or delivary whereas accuracy is just a case of repeating that action.

I am a right arm leg spin bowler. I was formally a medium pace bowler but decided try something new last year and haven't looked back. I can spin the ball a reasonable amount depends how much work i put on it. Am currently working on the googly.

I'm a right arm medium paceman. I bowl seam up, get quite decent bounce and good away-swing from the right hander. I love bowling to lefties as I start my run-up wide of the crease and try to swing the ball into them... Works quite well, took 6 left-handed scalps last season for my local men's team (13 right-handers)... I'm 16 now, I turned 16 on the eve of our last game of the season!

I can hit 70mph, which is mainly down to my height and general size... I'm about 6 2", and quite broad, so I get quite good pace and bounce. I need to work a little more on keeping the ball tighter to the off-stump, I sometimes pitch the ball too far outside the off...

I can only seem to seam the brand new ball aswell unfortunately!

I bowled 2 overs of leg-spin on our end of season game: "Old Boys Vs Young Old Boys"...

I only went for a couple aswell... I was chuffed!

My best bowling figures are: 5 Overs, 3 Maidens, 3 Wickets for 7 Runs...

We bowled them out for 45.

I'm a 6'2 leg spinner at 13. I think I am probably the biggest leg-spinner of the ball out of all the under 14 people in the world. No, I am not joking I can seriously spin the ball that much I don't care if you don't believe me.

I sometimes get back pain bowling leg spin cause of my height but it's ok now I guess. Ok maybe I am a little over confident but I did not say i'm the best leg spinner under 14's in the world but leg spinner I think I am. The U-17's where shocked from the amount of spin I get even the best player at the club said im a massive turner of the ball. I'll shut up now so people won't think im a moron.

Well I don't know exactly but I have on a few occasion spun the ball 3 quarters of the pitch. I don't know how wide the pitch is though what are they usually 2 metres?

it is possible to turn the ball too much, it may sound stupid but often balls turn to much and miss the bat and the stumps, about 10 inches(about 2 bats wide) of turn is propably the right amount, turning it 3 feet never did anybody any favours as macgill has found out, this is why the accuracy of warne won him the place in the team, above macgill
