You are captain of a team in the World Cup final in the West Indies next year. The opposing team needs 7 of the final over with 2 wickets in hand & you can choose any current bowler in the world to bowl for you. Who do you choose? My vote is Glenn McGrath. |

And for what it's worth my choice would be Andrew Hall as he is an outstanding death bowler - indeed a couple of years ago he was in a very similar situation playing for Worcs when Lancashire needed 7 off the final over with 4 wickets in hand - Hall duly produced a quite amazing double wicket maiden.

Good question. Three answers: Line, length & experience. But that is just my opinion.

You see I personally think McGrath's metronic line and length would count against him in that situation as the batsman has a pretty good idea of what he'll bowl and can thus line him up - such as when he conceded 9 off the final over to create a tie at Lords last year

Hall is good. But I'd still fancy taking 7 of the last over from him. Bowls full but thats about it

Definately Hall as Clobber pointed out, remember in the VB series against Sri Lanka they needed 10 runs of the final over only 2 runs I think came from it,apart from him id choose Shoaib Akhtar. |

Depends who the batsmen are! If it's Mahmood and Harmison , I'll bowl myself!! Pollock isn't the man , Chris Read took him apart at Newlands a few years ago. McGrath can also travel. If we're talking tailend batsmen then I think Murali would be their worst nightmare . If there are two decent hitters , then a Dwayne Bravo could be the winning action. Andrew Hall is a cool customer too , as Clobs pointed out. Going back a few years , Ian Harvey was a clever lil sod at the death too! |

If they were tailenders which they probably would be, I'd put on a spinner with a fairly deep field set, they'd probably go slogging and either miss, hit a cracker for 6 or 4, or get caught. And I'd guess they wouldn't hit more than one cracker

McGrath has had a lot of experience in those situations but in recent times he has been smashed in the last few overs. The same with Brett Lee, last few overs his pace can let him down. I don't think and Aussie would be the best bowler.

Well as far as I see , I think at current bravo and hall are scintillating at the death. As for Mcgrath , he is one of the worst in my book. I remember a lot of times mcgrath figures are 7 overs for 16 and finsh with 10 overs for 50. |

I agree with Hall and Bravo but Gough ust be up there if selected which I hope he is. You just never see him get smashed at the death. Murali is a good choice too but spinners can always be slog swept even by tail enders.

Darren Gough is a legend in his own lifetime and must never play for England again , no matter how rubbish they are right now! His spouting about how many wickets he's taken in his career makes fine reading , until you read the small print. In his last 9 ODI's he took one , repeat ONE , wicket in his opening spells in those matches. That's why he's gone , he's well past his sell-by-date. |

I would have chosen sachin Tendulkar .
He has performed very well in such situatins. in 1993 he was given the last over and his first over with 6 more to win for south africa and it was the first match for south africa india won the match. |

well i would choose brett lee! his yorker length deliveries are perfect in that possition, i recall him coming on at the death against england 4 or 5 years ago when we were cruizing to victory only to skittle us with a devastating last spell of yorkers. that boy just doesnt know when he is beat, that gives him the edge. also i might throw in dermott reeve with his variations, he was awesome in his day, you never knew what he was gonna bowl. |
