Today, the Cricket World MVP Ratings have Muralitharan as the World No1 MVP Test player.

I probably agree with that, although, he has not played for several months due to injury.

What do you think?

Yes I do think that Muralidharan is the currently the best player even though he has not played for several months due tu injury. But I don't think  Mohammed Rafique desrves to be third in the world MVP test rankings. It should rather be Shane Warne, Glen Mcrath, Anil Kumble or Jacques Kallis.

Good point,Sporty.

However,Rafique has performed against some of the best opposition in the world and that should be taken into consideration, at this time.

In the future, his form may change!

MVP in bowling has 2 b Muralitharan without Sri Lanka r nothing. While the MVP in batting has 2 b Inzamam for the reason if he does well Pakistan do good and if he has a bad game Pakistan suffer too. Inzamam has just go a hundred emphasising my point.

While in ODI I think its a close call but being an Pakistani fan Shahid Afridi is probably the best all rounder at the moment with bat and ball he is awesome at the moment. A future captain for Pakistan mayb?

That's nonsense!

Afridi? Inzamam? I have to admit my respect for Inzamam has grown but not to that level and Afridi? He's about as inconsistant as the entire Pakistan team collectively!

In the literal sense of most valuable player yes Muralitharan is to his team but in that sense Kallis is to his as is Lara to his and so on.

If you mean the team MVP then maybe you're right with Inzamam but if you're looking at International ratings Afridi will never feature.

no mention of Jacques Kallis in ur list of all-rounders.
and even though i am a pakistani fan i don think shahid afridi is the best all rounder, his bowling is okay but his batting is not consistent at all so he can't be best all rounder, and Abdul razzaq was a great all rounder but his bowling has certainly declined. i think Andrew Flintoff is the best all rounder and Kallis is 2nd. flintoff and kallis have some competition for first place but flintoff is better cause he bowls and bats well, kallis hasn't been bowling very well lately. Chris ***le is okay at number 3 and Abdul razzaq should be number 4 and then Jacob Oram should be last.

so here's my list of the best all rounders:
1. Andrew Flintoff
2. Jacques Kallis
3. Chris ***le
4. Abdul Razzaq
5. Jacob Oram

i don think shahid should in the list of best allrounders at all, he's just not good enough. his batting is very entertaining to watch but it doesn't last very long most of the times so he jus cant be in the list of the best all rounders.

Just my opinion, but I find that Inzaman is a bit Lazy between the wickets although he has great technique and ability.

True, at this point there is no doubt that Andrew Flintoff deserves to be number one MVP over every other player in internation cricket today, even inzamam cause a big inzamam fan. Andrew Flintoff saved the last match for England, because Australia were somewhere around 277 for 2, when Andrew Flintoff suddenly just ripped Australia's batting order apart.

First of all, why do people rave on about Andrew Flintoff's performances
as being somehow greater than anything anyone else has ever done?
Sure, he took 24 wickets at 26 and 380 runs @ 40, a worthy all-round
performance - but if you look at JH Kallis between 1999-2003 you will
see that in those 5 years his test batting average was consistently above
50 and his test bowling average was consistently in the mid-20s. This
including series-winning efforts in India, the West Indies, Pakistan and
New Zealand and South Africa, along with some match-saving
performances against Australia.

So get some perspective please, and come back in 3 or 4 years time and
tell me that Flintoff is the greatest IF, and only IF, he has done this
consistently.

In terms of the MVPs - currently the most significant players in each team
are: Rafique (BAN), Flintoff (ENG), Kallis (SA), Warne (AUS), Bond (NZ),
Murali (SL), Dravid (IND), Lara (WI) and Inzamam (PAK).

Oh, who took 40 wickets in a 5 match test series? Who has taken 617
international test wickets? Its none other than the real MVP of the last 15
years, the Donald Bradman of bowling, Shane Keith Warne.
JH Kallis is the only player in history to have 8000 runs, 200 wickets and 100 catches in BOTH forms of the game. Only Sobers (tests) and Jayasuriya (one dayers) have achieved half that feat.

First of all, nobody cares about how Jacques Kallis was performing 2 years ago. The machines that do the rankings don’t look at how he was doing 2 years ago, and they don't look at how his over all averages are. The machines look at how consistent lately and how he has been performing lately. And i know that Jacques Kallis has not even been performing close to as good as Flintoff has. As you mentioned, Flintoff took 24 wickets at an average of 26 and 380 runs @ an average of 40. But Kallis only performed very well 2 years ago, so why don't you (superbokkie) tell us how Kallis has performed in 2005 cause nobody cares about how he performed 2 years ago. It doesn't matter if Kallis' bowling averages were in the mid twenties in 2003 and his average was consistently above 50, cause now he isn't that good. Lately Kallis has made no match winning performances, while Flintoff has made a series winning performance, which is why he was the man of the series for the ashes series this year. Take for example his extraordinary performance in the last ashes test when Australia were 277 for 2 and then Flintoff destroyed Australia’s' batting order taking 6 wickets, and bringing Australia from 277 for 2 to somewhere around 365 all out. If it weren't for Flintoff there was no way England could have won the last match, or the whole Ashes series. Flintoff was the hero of the Ashes series, he deserves to be praised for his amazing performance in the ashes and he deserves to be number one MVP. But you’re right that Statistically Jacques Kallis is the best all rounder since Sir Garfield Sobers. But currently Flintoff is the best.

Shane Warne is not the best bowler or slow bowler. Muttiah is a way better bowler than Shane. Muttiah’s bowling average of 22 is better than Shane’s 25, Muttiah’s strike rate of 56 is better Shane’s 57, Muttiah’s 14 Ten Wicket hauls are way better than Shane’s 10, Ten wicket hauls, Muttiah’s 47 five wicket hauls are way better than Shane’s 32, Muttiah’s economy rate of 2.34 is better than Shane’s 2.61. The only reason Shane has more wickets is because he has played more matches than Muttiah. Muttiah has played only 95 tests while Shane has played 128. When Shane Warne is gone, Muttiah will easily beat his record. Muttiah is the better player out of Shane Warne and himself.

saadadvanced7,

Let us keep this respectful. I would like to say, you criticise me for
bringing up Kallis' old performance, but then you yourself compare
Murali's past performances to Shane's. Going by your logic, Shane IS
currently the best bowler in the world because he has just taken an
incredible 40 wickets in a 5 match series, and Murali has been either
injured/out of form this year.

And you asked me to mention Kallis 2005 performances - well, he has
scored 800+ runs this year at an average exceeding 70, with several
match-winning centuries. In fact, he hit a match saving century vs
England in January, and 2 match-winning centuries against the West
Indies in the West Indies. He has also bowled reasonably well, with 19
wickets at 37 - yes, nothing compared to Flintoff as an all-rounder, but a
good performance nonetheless.

The point I was really trying to make is this: Flintoff was nowhere to be
seen in South Africa earlier this year. Sure he played well against Australia
- but before people start calling him THE MVP, I would like the man to
make a habit of performing at the top - as Kallis did for 6 straight years.

That was the point I was trying to make. I wasn't actually trying to say
Kallis is the MVP right now - I was trying to say that Warne is.
JH Kallis is the only player in history to have 8000 runs, 200 wickets and 100 catches in BOTH forms of the game. Only Sobers (tests) and Jayasuriya (one dayers) have achieved half that feat.

I agree that Shane Warne did perform very well in the Ashes and deserves to be MVP over Muttiah Muralitharan. I also agree that even in 2005 Kallis has statistically performed better than Flintoff. But the thing is that Kallis hasn't played for a month or two now, but Flintoff just made an amazing performance in the ashes series and the MVP ratings are updated after every series so after the Flintoffs amazing ashes performance he clearly deserves to be the all rounder MVP.

That's not fair mate - he bowled really well and with real pace too. Don't forget that he played the entire series through the pain barrier and was full of cortisone and painkillers. He didn't sparkle with the bat , but his influence cannot be underestimated .

....and don't forget , England won 2-1 !!

srry, superbokkie, i didn't know that Kallis was actually performing so well this year.(i don't mean it sarcastically) An average above 70, That's extroadinary for an allrounder.

New MVP in my books. One AC Gilchrist, the most devastating one day batsman since Tendulkar was in his pomp.
JH Kallis is the only player in history to have 8000 runs, 200 wickets and 100 catches in BOTH forms of the game. Only Sobers (tests) and Jayasuriya (one dayers) have achieved half that feat.

For all those people who say Murali is better, and in particular saadadvanced7 who suggets Murlia has better stats - its because Murali plays a lot more games against Bangladesh, Zimbabwe etc. who don't compare as opposition to the opponents Warne bowls to. You need to consider that as well when saying Murali's average of 22 is better than Warnes 25.

hey, i already mentioned that currently shane is way better than murali. but u are correct that a lot of muralis wickets have come at the hands of weak opponents, infact almost 1/5 of murali's wickets have come from bangladesh and zimbabwe.

It doesn't matter who is better between Shane and Murali because Adam Gilchrist is the MVP :)

My logic for this new choice is that - in the absence of Gilchrist's best form - Australia lost the Ashes. And now look how dominant they are when the guy is back in form. In the space of 10 overs he can put the game out of reach for any team - even the best XI in the world.
