I'd love to see Pakistan win but I don't quite think they will.
My favorite for the tournament is West Indies, power packed side that, and the other teams to watch out for in my opinion are Australia and India.

I am with you Sam i feel Pakistan might make it to semi but no further than that.
I will put my bet on Windies or Australia. I give India very little chance because of the bowling lineup they have they will struggle to make it to Semi with most teams having power pack batsman. |

Australia? Really? They will be lucky to even make it to the 2nd round. It will be between Sri Lanka, West Indies and Pakistan. India, though are not that strong but the IPL experience imght help them. Pakistan have the edge in the spin department - they have the best spin attack by a country mile than any other country.

By the way are you sure if Pak will qualify for 2nd round ? Mind you, can't take anything in T20 for granted. In my opinon all 9 teams stand a good chance ( ENG,AUS,SA,IND,PAK,SL,NZ & WI). Bangladesh can be handful in T20 on a consistent basis, moreover conditions suit them. Only Ireland,Afganistan and Zim we can safely rule out , but Ireland and Afghan will give good fight.

I am certainly NOT sure about ANYTHING Raj. And yes, country mile is an exaggeration but I do not see any current spin attack as good as Ajmal, Afridi, Rehman, Hafeez and the numbers are there for everyone to see I believe.

Sri Lanka don't stand a chance, and I think fast bowlers will also have a good impact on the tournament.
If Pakistan play well they have a chance, but such is their mercurial natire that we cannot predictanything about them. Australia will do well Zuhair, Watson, Warner, Hussey brothers... they won't give up so easily. As for minnow teams, BAN will be able to beat NZL not Pakistan, and I'm hpping ZIM beat SLN, all they need to do is play out Malinga, it can be done.

6/8 by Mendis .. with 2 maidens in 4 overs. He owns the two best figures ever in T20I now! While the other Mendis made quick runs and took 3 wickets with his leggies. I do not necessarily agree with you Sam, Sri Lanka are playing at home and their spinners do really well in their own conditions - plus that batting like up... Dilshan is one of the best, Jayawardene is amazing in this format and Sangakkara is the best player in the world at the moment (equal best with a couple of others in my opinion, Amla, AB, Philander all come to mind). I know it's just a win against Zimbabwe, but they just beat SA in that T20 series not that long ago. Sri Lanka are semi-finals material for mine.

They may as well make it to the semis Mikey, but that'll mostly be because they'll be pitted against slightly weaker teams on paper in the super 8's. I'm sure IND, PAK, RSA and AUS all can beat them easily, but none of those 4 teams will be in SLN's group.

Only two systems work.
One where you have 2 big pools and the top 4 teams go into the semis (like what they did for the 2009 Champion's Trophy); The second system is to have a super sixes stage after the pool stage, so that all the top teams face each other before the Semis. This system worked in the 99 and 2003 World Cup. In 99 we saw Australia grow in the tournament and eventually show why they deserved to win, while the 03 World Cup Australia were clear favourites. I felt with the last world cup, it made no sense that the top 8 teams go into a knock out quarter final, when in fact the top 8 teams in the rankings all made it into the quarters - what was the point of having pool games? |

I can't agree more, I'm not a fan at all of the format they used in 2011 WC, as Mikey has pointed out the pool games hardly have any meaning, and then the Quater finals mean a knock out stage way too early, all the good work done by a team by winning all it's pool games can be undone by just one loss in the QF's... Pathetic format... only the top 3 should make it to the super 6's that'll make the pool games meaningful and the deserving teams will make it to the semis.
unfortunately though, the ICC have already announced that the same format of 2011 WC will be used in the 2015 WC in AUS and NZL.

"Taking this in to
consideration, team ‘England’ (35) and South Africa (41) both fall in to
this bracket directly. So if you ask me, the tie should ideally be
between these two teams," predicts Bhavikk.
