Well, not really because one is a winter sport and one is a summer sport. Rugby is without a doubt the most popular sport though. Cricket is the most popular summer sport, and many youngsters compete each weekend in thier respective grades etc.

Soccer has become pretty popular too sam! Lot's of young lads play it, though the numbers, unfortunately don't reflect results. We're terrible ! Rugby, though, is what we thrive on ! An AB's test haults the nation and often the week ahead rests on the result ! Losing this years WC will be a travesty for NZ rugby, especially with several top players heading overseas to pursue doe !
Good one Graham!

Interesting!  In SA among the black community , soccer rules. The Afrikaaner is rugby daft and the english speaking community go for cricket and then rugby  (a bit of a generalisation , but accepted by most South Africans).
I'd say that coaching of the three sports is a tad unbalanced. Soccer just hasn't got the support of rugby or cricket yet , but it is improving.

Come September most pubs will be packed though and my wallet will be in serious danger when the Boks play England!

I'm going to make a bold prediction and count out the English- a South African v All Black final for sure. Though a working French team can destroy anyone on their day, I don't think they will quite have it in them to take on the Southern Hemispheres finest !

Good one Graham!

Yep sure are. The dots at the end of the sentence dont necessarily mean sarcasm. They could indicate they you may be unsure of the statement you just made, and therefore you are waiting for assurance by a third party. MP12 could you kindly inform me what a sarcasm detector is? i seem to be unsure...

I'm not sure if you were being sarcastic there, but I made that comment as a sarcastic joke. Anyway a sarcasm detector is like a lie detector although it detects sarcasm!

Everyone uses sarcasm to a certain degree, it's inherent within one's humour and everyone understands it. Within context my sarcasm could've been understood. Your just one literal lad.

Sarcasm is good humour when it doesn't involve yourself

Bond is my favourite player from the kiwi side! It's hard not to admire the chap's bowling!

Yes true, I also like the likes of a new lad by the name of Ross Taylor. Hes shown some promise through a few nicely carved innings. Should be a solid no.3 or 4. But my favourite batsmen are Ricky Ponting or Kevin Pietersen, I dont mean to jump on the bandwagon or anything....but they are just so damn talented.

Yeah mate, when you see batsmen who can dominate an attack, you just can't help but admire them.

I still think Lara is more impressive given that he hasn't always come in when the score is favourable. He doesn't have the bowling as well as batting talent around him to rely on like Ponting and Pietersen do.

Good point, lara is another one of the greats. He was the stronghold of the West indies side for the latter part of his career.

So this makes Ponting and KP less impressive?

Given Lara's position and the success he achieved, yes. I wouldn't even compare KP to any of the modern day 'greats', yet. I admire the likes of Ponting, Tendulkar and Steve Waugh, but have always perceived Lara to be at the top of the heap. This is mainly due to the reasons stated above and also when he gets going, in my opinion, is the best to watch.

Good one Graham!
