    Posted: 06 July 2006 at 12:27pm

im wondering whether i should go for a woodworm flame or torch, i had the flame for this season, but it broke and im getting a 50% reduction on another woodworm bat, but i am more in favour of getting the torch because the meat is spread out across more of the blade unlike the flame where it is just in one spot. any suggestions?

thanks

Rich

Neither of them are worse bats, but if your last flame snapped on you thenthe torch might be better.

i just hate woodworm! They seem to be bought almost exclusively by people trying to emulate their favourite stars regardless if whether the bat is right for them.....But i guess some choose woodworm bats on quality.

whilst purists, and higher level cricketers may not like woodworm, for lads who havent got into mens sizes, i think its great becuase having a much better bat isn't going to help much, and more kids buy bats becuase they get woodworms like freddie and kp!

it basically helps more kids get into the game, and by the time they are good enough and old enough to understand that having the same bat as kp wont make them kp, they will then choose their bats accordingly

a positive is they do seem to make bats with a very light weight but without loss of power. I used my friends yesterday and the power is impressive to say it weighs like only 2 10". That was a shock difference from my powerbow. But i still prefer mine !!!

Just to say that several people have informed me that Woodworm bats are made in India. My suspicion was raised further when Woodworm failed to send me a reply when I asked them where their bats were made.

Whilst I am not doubting the quality of their bats (as Indian made bats are usually good), this does raise a few points:

1) How many of you lot were mislead into thinking that they were British made (because of the video clips, features etc that makes it look as though they are made in some English workshop)?

2) God knows what the profit margins are

3) What is it saying about Woodworm that they don't appear to be proud of the fact their bats are indian made - unlike Kookaburra for example who openly state that their bats are made in india

4) If you are going to spend that much money, why not consider a custom made bat.

Note shoaib that some woodworms are made in england, as you can go up to the factory in huntindonshire, next to the hunts county factory and have one made in front of your eyes there, and you can atually have then tweaked a bit so they are made a bit more custom i think.

the woodworm bats are usualy bought by kids just getting into cricket who like Freddie or KP. I dont see much wrong with that.

anyway, the woodworm bats are actualy quite good.

i know what you mean. I have no problem with woodworm itself really. Just the attitudes of many players who buy a woodworm to emulate their heroes. Annoys me further when they say "i have pieterson's bat" rather then "i have a torch". From experience, i hardly know anyone who owns a woodworm and hasn't bought it because of the freddie or kp influence.

Our club opener has a flame, he says its the best bat he's ever used. Since
he has had this bat he has score 981 runs in 21 games at a 61.31 average!
However you do see many young kids using them but there is not much
harm in this(there not saying the bat will be exactly like Flintoffs), just good
marketing techniques by Woodworm.

woodworm are all about marketing, theyve stopped making the wand so that they can bring a new bat out that will sell more bats to new customers.

the bats themsleves are machine made with no care in india
