LOU VINCENT TO REPLACE PHIL JAQUES

Worcestershire CCC has announced that New Zealand batsman, Lou Vincent, will replace Phil Jaques for a 5 week period in July. Jaques will return to Australia for their ‘Top End Series’ on 24th June and will be back for the LVCC game against Glamorgan in Colwyn Bay on 2nd August.

Vincent has played 22 Test Matches (including a knock of 224 against Sri Lanka) and 83 ODI’s for New Zealand. He is an opening batsman with three Test Match centuries and two ODI centuries to his name and is an outstanding fielder.

Worcestershire’s Director of Cricket, Steve Rhodes, says, “I am delighted that Lou has agreed to play with us. He is the ideal person to substitute for Phil particularly for the Twenty20 Cup competition. He will bring a dynamic style of play and is the type of character we want in the dressing room.”

Lou Vincent says, “It didn’t take me long to decide to accept Worcestershire’s offer and I am really looking forward to joining the squad later in June. I hope I can make a substantial contribution during my five weeks with the team, particularly in the Twenty20 Cup which I know has been a huge success in England.”

Vincent will arrive on 21st June and play his first game for the County in the C & G Trophy match against Yorkshire at New Road on 25th June.

worctershire are a 3 man show...zaheer, Phil Jaqcues  and kabir...and thier batting line up is nothing to write home about..hick is too old..solanki has a poor average considering how long he has been playing and the rest are just bits and pieces cricketers.. ray price is Zimbabwean standard, they will be lucky to stay up and compete with other counties!

County Championship D2, Bristol, day four (close): Gloucestershire 471 & 163-4 drew with Worcestershire 587-8d & 247-9d

Gloucestershire's Division Two match with Worcestershire finished in a tame draw after an uneventful final day.

Visiting skipper Vikram Solanki waited until after lunch to declare, setting the home side an unrealistic 364.

Worcestershire began the final day 223 ahead at 107-3 and fifties from Ben Smith and Graeme Hick put the match out of Gloucestershire's reach.

Phil Weston and Christopher Taylor made watchful fifties as Gloucester made 163-4 before an early close was agreed.

Worcestershire added 140 in 36 overs, with Graeme Hick passing fifty for the first time this season and hitting five fours in a 117-ball innings before glancing a leg-side catch to the keeper.

India paceman Zaheer Khan struck off-spinner Martyn Ball for consecutive sixes over long-on from the only two deliveries he faced before the closure finally came.

Although Worcester's declaration was cautious in the extreme, they were given hope of a surprise win when Gloucestershire lost two wickets in the opening 14 overs of their innings.

Centurion Craig Spearman was bowled after attempting to pull one from Kabir Ali that was not short enough.

Fellow New Zealander Hamish Marshall, who also reached three figures in the first innings, drove Gareth Batty to mid-on where Phil Jaques took a fine diving catch to his right.

But Weston struck his fifth score over 50 this season, sharing 100 with Taylor in 30 overs.

Somerset v Worcestershire
County Championship D2, Taunton: Somerset v Worcestershire
Match starts 1100 BST Wednesday

Former England paceman Richard Johnson returns to Somerset's Championship side for the game against Worcestershire.

He missed last week's victory over Glamorgan but took 2-27 against the Welsh county in the C&G Trophy game which followed.

Worcestershire are likely to stick with the same team which played out a draw with Gloucestershire on Monday.

But left-armer Stuart Wedge has been named in a 12-man squad to give them an extra seam bowling option.

Were looking for some revenge
