Here is my team
1. Ricky Ponting(c)
2. Adam Gilchrist(wk)
3. Sanath Jayasuriya
4. Brian Lara
5. Sachin Tendulkar
6. Rahul Dravid
7. Jacques Kallis
8. Andrew Flintoff
9. Inzamam-ul-Haq
10. Chris Gayle
11. Shaun Pollock
12. Muttiah Murlitharan
13. Glenn McGrath
14. Daniel Vettori
15. Shane Bond
The team consists of :
1. Two top class spinners Vettori and Murli ...different type of spinners...one is best left arm while other is the best off spinner of the world...both r economical and wicket taking bowlers..can trouble any side on any track...Vettori is gud with bat too
2. Three quality fast/medium fast bowlers. McGrath, Pollock and Bond..combination of youth and experience....one is the most accurate bowler in the world...other is a bowler who can seam the bowl on any surface....third one is the fastest bowler playing in this tournament
3. To support the fast brigade we have two genuine medium pace allrounders....Kallis and Flintoff....one maintains a nagging line while other one a symbol of aggression who can extract bounce on any wicket....both r gud batters....one can smack at 150-200 strike rate while other can play a rock solid innings
4. Three openers Sanath, Gayle and Gilli.....All explosive......Gilli also acts as an allrounder ..keeping wickets and opening batting...sanath and gayle can bowl more than useful spin...pretty tight
5. Rahul provides solidity to the middle order....the second best scorer in the last two world cups...always useful...either batting first or second.....can hold fort if wickets fell early...gud finisher while chasing...can act as second wicket keeper in case of injuries to Gilli...
6. Sachin ...the master batsmen...leading scorer in WC's.....useful with ball...man with a golden arm....gives break throughs when required
7. Lara ....classy, elegant, master-piece, aggressive...a man known for big innings.....no words to describe this legend
8. Inzamam......the third best batsman of nineties after Sachin and Lara......a man who can win u matches single handedly...a man responsible for Pak's victory in WC 2002......a man who is also playing his fifth world cup along with Sachin, Lara and Sanath....
9. Last but not least ..Ponting...the best captain in present day scenario.....captain of a champion team....a great batsman....one who is a threat to Sachin's records.....atleast in Test cricket....
So guys I think this is the best team I can pick...the most balanced team....which has a lot variety in spin, pace and batting....consisting of legends.....many allrounders ....rock solid batting.....aggressive approach.....sufficient backups to play a long tournament..a good captain....I think this team can win on any track coz of its variety in bowling and batting.....a real winner team

I would like to keep Hussey, Ntini and Sangakkara as my reserved players as WC is a long tournament and injuries can result in exit of players from the tournament

Gayle
Tendulkar Ponting Lara Pitersen Dhoni Oram Flintoff Bond McGrath Murali Jayasuraya Pollock Sangakarra Vetorri Ntini I think a balanced bowling attack, Sheer pace in Bond, accuracy and cunning in McGrath and bounce and movement from Flintoff, combined with Oram who can fill in some overs, then there are two spinners, Murali who is world class and Gayle who a genuine bowler in one-day cricket. As for the batting, possibly a little unbalanced having all stroke-players or big hitters and no 'steady' types, but I took the view that this lineup is good enough to get away with it. A slight issue with captaincy, the only two with international captaincy experience are Ponting and Lara, neither of whom I rate greatly as skippers, but again I think with this group of plaers it doesn't hugely matter. In trhe end I would plump for Lara since in a side like this I think maybe his ego wouldn't get in the way so much as when skippering the windies. I nearly picked Fleming as he would solve both problems of captaincy and having a solid steady player, but I couldn't justify it on form recently |
