Clever.... I don't think Aussies have any answer for this one. If you lose too many matches after scoring over 300, then at some stage you are sure to move down from No.1!!!

I like the commentry of Barry Richards. He really has expert opinion on all issues.
Aussies must not lend a deaf ear to Sunil Gavaskar's opinion in which he said that Aus are not favorite winners, and people all over the world were gladdened by Aus stepping down as No.1.
As players, you represent your nation. Unfortunately Aus players have done no good to their nation in this regard.
And Aus members in this forum are following the same path, unintentionaly though. I would like to see much better approach from Stepashkin!!!

I believe some of the Aussie players have wronged but no ore than other nations. It is purely that we as a collective do not like losing. i do it myself when I watch the local football. the dominant teams are respected for their ability but disliked. What would the odds be of Pakistani supporters being kinder in their oinions of Ahktar and Sami than others. Ausies rallied around Warne.
I do not think it is just Aussie supporters and players and to label us as such proves my point. Our society encapulates the blame game and if we can knock off the tall poopies then we don't look in our own back yard as much. We need to be consistant wholistically, not just where it suits our purpose.

In any sport dominated by a single team envy leads to twisted thinking
Bobbi. Australia are experiencing that now after 10 years of
success. I think only Brazil in football have retained their
popularity after being highly successful for 50 years!!

hold on guys - since when have the aussies been gone ??? They have always lost one day matches here and there. We sent a second rate team to NZ. The Poms did well against us to win the finals. We wont miss warne in the one dayers because he hasnt played one for 4 years. The aussies always come through when its tough. Look at the recent cahmpions trophy for instance - we had never won one of those until late last year.
Barry richards commentary is so biased towards South africa that you can hardly form an rational opinion of the other side playing them. They are chokers the south africans in all forms of sport - not only cricket. Look at hussey and his record - does every one carry on about his ability in comparison to barry richards ?? No - but his record is better.
Anyway the aussies will win in a canter - and south africa will not even make the semis...

Yeas, you cann't write off Ausies after few bad performence, they still have the players who has done it past, their bowling is not in right shap at present but they have enough quality in bowling to get it right. If ausis get it right South Africa is no match to them, Eventhough South Africa has done well in resently they have not been really tested away from the home, I feel they will struglle in Windies because they do not have the varity in bowling or batting.

Richards played in only 4 tests before isolation. Those were against Australia and he averaged 72. Whilst stats over 4 tests mean little , he did give the Aussie attack palpitations - the great Graham McKenzie and company just couldn't bowl to him. Then there was the little matter of scoring 300 in a day at Perth against Dennis Lillee and company..................did you ever see him play ? If he was so overrated why did Packer pay him so much and why did he stay on in Oz afterwards to reek havok on Australian attacks? Hussey is a class act , but Richards is a legend! |

I believe SRI chance is better than any other team in this wc, SRI's combianation is best on those sort of pitches. SRI is also a good fielding side.
AUS is also a very good team although their bowling looks offcolour but still it is better than many sides.
SA team is good but i think they will struggle during this wc. their spinning department is very weak & also there are problem to face the spinners.
Eng is not a very strong side specially on these conditions, they are not good to play spinners.
Ind is very very strong team, they got a good batsmen and spinners but their fielding is still weak, the problem with india is their batting consistancy, also sometimes their bowler struggled.
PAK's chance is very low, their fielding is very poor (specially keepering), they are not consistance but i agree with Ramiz that Pak team is predicatbely unpredicatble.they may be turn the whole picture of wc.
West Indies is ok team only 2 to 3 players are good other wise WI is not a strong side.
semi final teams : SRI, AUS, IND, PAK/SA
Final : AUS VS SRI
winner : SRI

No matter what happens, I just hope Australia and Sri Lanka lose. And my gut feeling tells me they will lose quite a few and more importantly, the games that matter. I will bet aginst anyone who thinks these two will make it past the semis, if they get there that is. I've put 500 pounds on it at Ladbrokes and should make a killing come mid-april.
Rational Boy is gonna be an unhappy boy very soon.

Agreed!!! I like Lara even when he scores a hundred against Pak to cost them a game, just becoz he is not rude at any stage of his carrier. I loved the way Darren Gough used to be friendly on the field. Same team had Athurton.....!!! If a pakistani player uses abusive language against any player, i would favour taking strict action against him. |

My Semis:
AUS vs NZ
IND vs SA
Hard to say from then on but I'd love to see an Ind-Aus final again. Only this time, I'd like India to win.

Now that we can (almost) safely count India and Pakistan out of the semi's, I can say that my prediction of SA, Aus, WI and SL is looking pretty much on the cards.

Was bound to happen sooner or later, but yeah, it's nice. India, like Pakistan thrive on confidence and stall on none. Good luck boys, your going to need it.

Sri Lanka look stronger than India , but the Indians have a number of
matchwinners in their ranks. If I had to put my house on it , I'd
go for the Lankans...........but I wouldn't be that confident!

I think he meant to say India vs England for the final spot in the quarter finals... Slightly more plausable, but even that doesn't look all too likely.

Mojo's leaving out NZ and you guys argee?? These pitches are our own domain. Don't write us kiwis off!!! My likely semi finalists are SA, Aus, Sri Lanka and NZ.
India: too inconsistent, also need to beat Sri Lanka to make it through. They win some, lose some, that's they're nature.
West Indies: have the home ground advantage. I'm inclined to write them off because they're also an inconsistent on-day side. However I wouldn't put it past them to make the semis, though the four I have picked are all better sides.
England: can't seem them progessing very far in this WC. They have been marred by several events, no cohesion or structure. They're discipline is terrible.
Bangladesh: Have done well but will stuggle to win when the heat gets on. Let's just admire the talent they have waiting in the wings. Edited by bond2322 - 20 March 2007 at 10:36am |

NZ certainly has a big chance, Bond. But only 4 teams can make it through, and I fancy WI over NZ. As for SA, Aus and SL, They're gonna all be tough tough teams to beat. Even by NZ's standards.
