Guys
I am just sick of comparisons where they put Sehwag against the greats... Lets compare him in the league where he belongs at the moment!!! Younis Khan and Sehwag have played similar no. of test matches, lets compare their records and have a poll Younis Mat Runs HS BatAv 100 50 W BB BowlAv 5w Ct StSehwag 42 3614 309 54.75 11 10 3 1/17 135.00 0 36 0Now we have two choices, lets start comparing Younis with Dravid & Tendulkar or keep Sehwag in his own league... However, there is one major difference!
When Younis plays better Pakistan wins... He averages 50% more than his overall test average when Pakistan wins. Younis's 7 out of 11 100s are match winning. Sehwag's the other way around, when India wins, his average drops below his overall average... Sehwag's has made only 2 out his 11 100s in a victory. Younis |

So there you go then. That means that even though Sehwag is a big part of India's team, Younis makes an ever bigger contribution to the Pakistan team. Younis has also got a better technique than Sehwag. Sehwag barely has any footwork.

Sehwag doesnt play under pressure, his second innings average is way low compared to ist innings, similarlr he rarely features in sucessful run chases, But he is exciting to watch for his exploits early in the innings similar to afridi, and dhoni, bith excitinf to watch, but not truly dependable. Younis khan is a breed apart, a thoroughbred, man of crises for pakistan, immensly telented, reliable, infact the cricket revival in pakistan was becos of two players Inzi and younis. The way he has progressed in the last one year he deserves a comparison with dravid, or the resurgent yuvraj singh (though he hasnt done that much as yet). All in all sehwag in league of pinch hitters, younis in the league of batsman! |

Yup! I completely agree.
Younis is a proper batsman while Sehwag is a pinch hitter. |

Wiseguy, Please dont compare Yuvraj with Younis, Younis is a class above. You can compare Yuvraj with the likes of Salman Butt I believe.... |

Yuvraj has been in good form lately and deserves comparison with Younis.

Yeah, right Wiseguy...
No votes for Sehwag??? I think just because people were voting for him previously without taking a look at his record.... Now they have seen his records therefor no votes for Sehwag anymore! |

Just to illustrate about stats never giving the full story;
The true measure of a player's ability is how he fares against the very best, which in the cricket world of the last few years is Australia, so let's see the records of those two gentlemen against the men at the top. Sehwag Mat Runs HS BatAv 100 50 |

I think Mike Hussey has shown that he is a class act,I think your wrong on Gilly and Symo though they are both class acts because they can play proper shots unlike afridi who just tries to slog it out of the ground |

I think the main concern for Ginger and similar people is not that Afridi is a slogger, but that he is a very successful slogger!!! Specially against India, whom he turns into absolute waste...... |

After doing hours of research on stats, my friend Clobber has finally come up with one Stat out of so many where Sehwag is ahead of Younis....... |

& being so naive, you simply missed that performing in Teams' victory is less important than performing in lost or drawn matches against Australia.... (thats an Indian batsman's tradition, play for record than for victory) |

In my opinion i dont think that it is even right to comapre sehwag with younis. I'm not saying that one's better than the other, but it doesn't seem very sensible to compare them. They are both such different players that it is too hard to say who's better. Stats never tell the truth and i'm sure you know that khan. |

Here is Sehwag the great's batting performance stats in the 2nd innings of a test... when your team is under pressure and the wicket is difficult
Mat Runs HS BatAv 100 50 W BB BowlAv 5w Ct St 40 550 90 22.91 0 2 0 - - 0 18 0 No 100s, just 2 50s and an average of 22???? Look at Younis Mat Runs HS BatAv 100 50 W BB BowlAv 5w Ct St 39 1191 194 39.70 3 5 2 1/24 38.50 0 14 0 3 100s and 5 50s with a batting average almost double of Sehwag's This is why Younis has won more matches than Sehwag for his country |

I didn't say any of them were better than the other. All i said was that you can't say who's better between them. I have posted many comments in other threads about it not being sensible. Sehwag is not a street kid so it would be nice if you could give him some respect too. He has immense talent and i'm sure you know it. Sehwag and younis are just not comparable. It is obvious that they are complete different players. I said that stats don't always tell the truth. Sehwag opens and younis bats down the order. It is quite likely for one of them to have a better average than the other becasue they bat at complete different positions. If you were to compare sehwag with salman butt and younis with dravid it may have been more sensible. |

Khan has rightly compared two players with the same number of matches, both been vice captains for their sides, but one featuring far more in teams wins compared to other, and thats what should make a player valuable! becos it counts to perform when the chips are down rather than when the cherry is new on asunny day! |
