Well, being young is useful but you have to be talented. Ofcourse, experience is a very good thing. Youth is only useful if you are talented.

A lot of Australia's great players are ageing. Ponting is 30 or 31, and he'll be here for a maximum 6 more years. McGrath and Warne are ageing. They're both 35+. Australia have to find young talent.

If someone is talented at a youthful age I think it all depends on how they are treated. I know it's not a cricketing example, but look at Matthew Tait from England Rugby. He played one game, got picked up and thrown backwards by one of Wales' backs and has since never had another cap. It is that kind of thing that worries me, because the guy has a lot of talent. I can't think of any cricketing examples, but no doubt the same has been done in cricket? |
