174-6 (Sangakkara 64, Marsh 40, Umar Gul 4-23) v
Kolkata Knight Riders 175-7 (Ganguly 86, VR Singh 2-28)
Scorecard from Kolkata
Kolkata Knight Riders won by three wickets

Saurav Ganguly's unbeaten innings of 86 from 53 deliveries was the difference between his side the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Kings XI Punjab in game 52 of the Indian Premier League.

Wicket-keeper Kumar Sangakkara scored a fluent 64, from just 45 deliveries as the Kings XI Punjab scored 174 for six before the Knight Riders made 175 for seven to win by three wickets with two balls to spare.

Sangakkara combined with Shaun Marsh (40) to set the platform for a good score once James Hopes (13) was dismissed early. Yuvraj Singh hit a belligerent 27 from 18 balls but no other batsman could dominate as Sangakkara had with Umar Gul taking four for 23 to restrict the away side's progress.

Ganguly smashed six sixes and six fours as wickets fell around him, Shanthakumaran Sreesanth, Piyush Chawla and Vikram Singh taking two each. No other batsman could score more than the 24 that Salman Butt registered until compatriot Umar Gul smashed 24 from 11 balls with three sixes as the game threatened to get away from the home side at the death.

The Kings XI Punjab are guaranteed a spot in the semi-finals, while the Kolkata Knight Riders cannot progress.
