Batsman Joe Gatting has signed a new three-year contract at Sussex that should keep him at Hove until the end of the 2012 season.
22-year-old Gatting was given a one-year contract at the beginning of the season before he hit 152 on his first-class debut against Cambridge UCCE, going on to secure a place in Sussex's limited overs team, averaging 44.3 in Sussex's successful NatWest Pro40 campaign.
“I'm delighted to sign a new deal and commit my future to Sussex CCC," Gatting said.
"There isn’t a better place to play your cricket. I want to keep on improving and this is the place to do it. I’m looking forward to helping Sussex get back into the top division where they belong.”
Mike Yardy, Sussex CCC Captain, added: “Joe made an extraordinary start to his professional career last year and I’m hoping he’ll build upon that with a successful 2010. It’s fantastic that he has committed his future to the club.”
Gatting previously played football for Brighton & Hove Albion and is the nephew of former England captain Mike Gatting.
