Geoff Cook Appointed Head Coach Of Durham CCC

1 March 2007
Durham County Cricket Club have announced that Geoff Cook has been appointed Head Coach following the decision of Martyn Moxon to tender his resignation.

Geoff played First Class cricket from 1971 to 1990, captained Northants from 1981 to 1988, and represented England 13 times, before joining Durham in 1991 when he captained the side. Geoff was appointed Director of Cricket in 1992, Durham’s maiden season as a First Class county, and was one of the first coaches in the country to receive his Level Four qualification.

Durham County Cricket Club Chief Executive, David Harker, said, “We are delighted to be able to give this opportunity to one of our coaching team. Geoff has enjoyed enormous success running the Durham Academy, with four of its intake already involved in the England set up. Geoff enjoys the full support of the playing squad, with Captain Dale Benkenstein particularly excited about the prospect of working with the man who brought him to the Riverside.”

Durham County Cricket Club Head Coach, Geoff Cook, said, “I am absolutely delighted to take responsibility for the professional squad and have the chance to work with what I think is the most promising group of players in the country. This season is certainly going to be an exciting one and I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead.”

Chairman Clive Leach CBE added, “We would like to thank Martyn for his commitment and dedication to Durham during his time with us and would like to wish him the best of luck for the future.”

Martyn Moxon said, “My time at Durham has been thoroughly enjoyable and have felt great satisfaction in working with such a fantastic group of people, both on and off the field. The team has developed over the years and it has been wonderful seeing the young talent emerging from the region. This has been a very difficult decision to make but the travelling from Wetherby to Chester le Street has affected my ability to fulfil my responsibilities to the high standard that both I, and the Club, demand. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at the Club for their support.”
