Gibson Stars For Yorkshire Academy

Ryan Gibson scored 119 not out as leaders Yorkshire Academy gained a five wicket win at Driffield in the Yorkshire ECB League.

Nick Hardgrave scored 106, including 12 fours and two sixes as Driffield totalled 214 in their 55 overs, but Gibson led the Academy to victory with 17 overs to spare.

York replaced Doncaster in second place after their 110-run win at Appleby Frodingham. Brothers Ryan (58) and Liam McKendry (56) hit half-centuries and spinner Daniel Woods took five for 34 for York, who made 257 for nine before bowling out Appleby Frodingham for 147.

Skipper Steve Nuttall scored 91, including 12 fours and one six as he added 70 for the fourth wicket in Barnsley’s 71-run win at Harrogate. Barnsley made 257 before bowling out Harrogate for 186.

Sheffield United were indebted to pace bowler Ben Jenkinson for their first league win of the season at Scarborough. United were not overly confident at the interval after they were bowled out for 150 with Theo Smith taking four for 25, but Jenkinson took them to victory with five for 12 in seven overs as they were bowled out for 98.

Spinner Mark Cummins took four for 11 to help Rotherham beat Doncaster by 161 runs. Rotherham scored 239 for eight with captain Nathan Smith top scoring with 58 and Cummins making 44. Cummins then made a vital contribution with the ball as Doncaster were shot out for 78.

Opener Will Simpson made 65 and Liam Hyde took five for 35 as Castleford beat Cleethorpes by four wickets.

Openers Bill Kirby (73) and Harry Warwick (46) shared a 117-run first wicket partnership in Cleethorpes’ total of 193 for nine,but they collapsed once the openers were parted.
