Gladiators Victorious Twenty20 Launch
The aim of the match was to illustrate the fun, exciting atmosphere of the twenty over game and the players on both sides seemed to have enjoyed the morning’s entertainment. The Twenty20 Cup is a fun action packed three hour game of cricket for all the family to enjoy whether you are a huge cricket fan or a complete novice to the game. The Gladiators’ first home match of their 2007 campaign is on 25th June against the Worcestershire Royals, followed by matches on 29th June, 4th and 6th of July. All Twenty20 matches at the County Ground start play at 5.30 (5.40 for 1st match) allowing supporters to come straight from work or school.
The match was reduced to 10 overs a side and all players took the match incredibly seriously as their competitive streaks shone through. In a change to normal cricket rules the opening batsmen were both substituted when the first wicket fell to allow the other media team members to demonstrate their batting skills, which were short-lived for some.
After scoring an impressive 62 from the 10 overs, which included a fair number of boundaries, the Gladiators went in to bat against a variety of bowling options from the media players. David Brown and Steve Snell were an impressive opening partnership, but Snell became the first and only Gloucestershire wicket to be claimed by the media. David Burton was the only other Gladiator to bat before they were declared triumphant, scoring 63 to win by 9 wickets.
GCCC would like to thank all of the media for participating in the special match and look forward to an exciting Twenty20 Cup at the County Ground.
