Glamorgan have extended the contract of talismanic all-rounder Graham Wagg until the end of the 2015 season. They have also signed Scotland Under-19 all-rounder Ruaidhri Smith on a development contract. The 18 year-old was named Glamorgan’s Academy player of the year in 2012.

Wagg joined Glamorgan from Derbyshire in 2011, having begun his career with Warwickshire, and is likely to play an even more important role for Glamorgan in 2013 following James Harris’ departure to Middlesex.

The 29 year-old took 42 wickets at an average of 23.76 in all cricket last year, as well as averaging almost 20 with the bat, despite missing three months due to a broken bone in his foot.

In other news, Wagg’s Glamorgan captain Mark Wallace has been elected as the new chairman of the Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA). He beat three other candidates - Stephen Peters, Matthew Hoggard and Jon Lewis - to the post and will succeed the incumbent Vikram Solanki, who stepped down after four years at the helm, on 30th January.
