Glamorgan will put the finishing touches to their preparations for the new county cricket season this month by heading off to southern Spain for a week’s warm weather training at the prestigious La Manga Club.

The county’s entire squad will travel to the award-winning resort in Murcia to be put through their final paces by Australian first-team coach Matthew Mott in readiness for the start of their pre-season fixtures.

Glamorgan are due to take on Somerset, Gloucestershire, Worcestershire and Kent in friendlies this month and Mott is keen to ensure his players are in top form for the campaign ahead by putting them through a series of outdoor sessions, fitness sessions and other drills from March 13-17.

Mott said: “A number of Glamorgan staff and players have been to La Manga Club in the past and it comes highly recommended. We were desperate to get to some warm weather after a mild but long winter.

“The trip is a great finish to a tough pre-season and the resort facilities will cater perfectly for what we hope to achieve both on and off the training track.

“We are genuinely excited by our week in La Manga Club which will set the base for a successful season ahead.”

The Welsh side is the latest team to take advantage of the first-class facilities that has made La Manga Club one of the leading sports and leisure destinations in Europe.

County and international teams use the award-winning venue regularly as a warm-weather training base and the addition of two regulation club turf pitches and four full-length nets has further cemented the resort’s standing as the ‘home of cricket in Spain’.

The Mediterranean climate makes it possible to train outdoors in the sunshine all-year round and La Manga Club also stages a series of popular Cricket España  junior cricket academies during school holidays.

La Manga Club’s outstanding sports facilities are just part of the overall attraction of Europe’s number one sport and leisure resort. Three championship golf courses, a 28-court tennis centre and a 2,000sqm spa complex are just some of the facilities on offer in addition to more than 20 restaurants and bars and a five-star hotel.
