Gloucestershire Confirm Venue Change For Essex Match
Gloucestershire County Cricket Club have confirmed that the LV County Championship Division Two match against Essex will now go ahead at Bristol, and not at Cheltenham, as scheduled. The match starts on July 25th (Wednesday) and the switch of venues means that the second team game between Gloucestershire and Somerset, due to be held at Bristol, has been cancelled.
Gloucestershire Chief Executive, Tom Richardson, explained: “Due to the lack of tap water and the fact that this shortage is going to on longer than anticipated means that we can no longer stage the match and therefore we had no other option. The middle and the north of the county have had a terrible battering and our hearts go out to them.
"Whilst we consider our cricket matches and what we do to be important it pales in to insignificance compare to the traumatic experiences suffered by many people. We thought hard about what to do about this game and consider that we should go ahead and play it and therefore have moved the fixture to Bristol.”
Gloucestershire have named the following squad for the match: C Spearman, K Ali, C Taylor, H Marshall, A Gidman, S Adshead, V Banerjee, S Kirby, C Greenidge, B Edmondson
J Lewis, A Ireland, M Hardinges
