Cricket whites across the UK and Ireland are set to get even whiter as AEG prepares to be bowled over by entries to its 2013 Grassroots cricket campaign, where teams can win new kits, washing machines, and the chance to train at Lord’s with their sporting heroes.

This year’s competition will see 40 grassroots cricket teams across the country (junior and senior) receive an ultimate kit and laundry package that includes 11 bespoke cricket kits, designed by the winning teams, as well as a top of the range AEG washing machine in time for the start of the 2013 season.

The campaign has been launched by AEG, the premium home appliance brand renowned for combining advanced technology with award-winning design and forms part of the company’s on-going commitment to support grassroots sports throughout the UK.

The initiative, now in its second year, has already provided grassroots clubs and schools with nearly 2000 full team kits, one of the biggest financial constraints for many teams, allowing them to distribute the money elsewhere into team costs and training.

Former England cricket star Darren Gough said: “It’s so important that AEG is continuing to support grassroots cricket this year. We need to give youth teams all the backing and support possible – they’re our future stars. The prizes on offer are money-can’t buy opportunities and I urge every team in the UK and Ireland to apply.”

2012 saw AEG supply hundreds of cricket shirts, trousers and caps to grassroots teams across the UK.  The winners designed their kits to include their club crests, ready for the start of the cricket season as well as an AEG washing machine to keep the whites in pristine condition. One lucky club, Kibworth Under 11s in Leicestershire, also received a training session with the England cricket team at Edgbaston and another won training with England cricket legends at their own club.

Duncan Jones who coaches Kibworth Under 11s said:  “I would strongly urge all grassroots teams to enter.  As well as winning a once in a lifetime opportunity to train with their England heroes, our team received a high-quality custom-made kit and an AEG washing machine which meant that we’ve been able to redistribute costs normally spent on sportswear and laundry towards training and other facilities for the club.”

Graham Bremer, Head of Marketing (UK & Ireland) said:  “At AEG, we’re keen to put our products to the ultimate test and demonstrate the technology we have invested in the washing process.  And what better way than washing dirty kits after a tough match?

“This year the prizes are bigger and better. The star prize takes into consideration not only the team and giving them a chance to be coached by their England cricket heroes but it also gives something back to the family, friends and devoted Mums and Dads who give up their time to make sure grassroots cricket clubs survive.”

To apply, simply go to www.facebook.com/AEG and 40 lucky teams will be selected. In addition to the free kit and laundry products, each team will also have the chance to win some amazing prizes, including:

•    A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be coached by cricket legends at the winning team’s own cricket club.
•    Training sessions with England cricket legends at Lord’s
•    A holiday to the 5* Forte Village resort in Sardinia

The grassroots cricket competition is open to all teams - adult, junior and schools, anywhere in the UK. Anyone can apply for the kits, whether they are a coach, parent or fan of the team. Those under 18 years of age should ask a parent or guardian to apply on their behalf. Simply visit www.facebook.com/AEG to view the launch video with Paul Nixon, get full details of the competition and to submit an application before 28th February 2013.

Manningham Mills are the new leaders of the JCT 600 Bradford League First Division after gaining maximum points as they beat Baildon by 88 runs at Scotchman Road. Opener Adal Islam was top scorer against his old club with 80 not out in Mills' formidable total of 264-5.
Jonny Moxon, son of Yorkshire's Director of Cricket, Martyn Moxon, played a key role with his pace bowling in York’s seven home win against Doncaster Town. Opener Simon Widdup and James Stuart put together a third wicket stand of 147 as Doncaster totalled 221-8 with Widdup hitting 11 fours and two sixes in his 101 while Stuart struck seven fours and two sixes in his innings of 71, Moxon taking 4-34.
In scenes reminiscent of 2012, the entire programme in the North Lancashire and Cumbria Premier and First Divisions was washed out this weekend. The lack of action means that Haverigg (61), Furness (54) and Cleator (50) lead the way at the top of the Premier Division while in the First Division, Egremont are on top with 63 points, Cletaor II are six points behind and Cockermouth II have 54 points in third place.
There were no positive results in the opening weekend of the Saracens Hertfordshire Cricket League but Totteridge Milhillians sit on top of the table with 17 points. Old Finchleians come next with 16 and St Albans are third with 11.
Teddington and Finchley top the early 2013 Middlesex ECB Premier League after winning their opening matches against Richmond and Eastcote. Eastcote were subsequently docked 10 points for fielding an understrength team, which nevertheless only went down by one wicket.
Thames Ditton Cricket Club will be taking on a blind and partially sighted team from Cricket for Change in a T20 Blind Cricket match to take place at 13.00 on Thames Ditton Green on Sunday 12th May 2013.
