South African captain Graeme Smith is expected to be fit to lead his country during the ICC World Twenty20, Cricket South Africa (CSA) saying he should be recovered from his finger injury in four weeks.
He suffered a double fracture to his right middle finger taking a catch for the Rajasthan Royals against the Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League, and he was subsequently ruled out of the rest of the tournament, flying home after the match.
After examinations of scans and x-rays, CSA medical specialists believe that the opening batsman will be ready to play again in a month, which would leave him around ten days of preparation ahead of the ICC World Twenty20, which begins on 30th April.
“Graeme will have a further X-ray on Tuesday to make sure his recovery is on track,” Proteas’ team manager Dr. Mohammed Moosaje added.
South Africa play India on 2nd May and then Afghanistan on 5th May in the initial group stage.
