England fast bowler Graham Onions has been ruled out of the Test series against Bangladesh which begins on Friday (12th March) in Chittagong and will fly home.

The Durham man has been carrying the injury for a week and was not involved in the One-Day International series, which England won 3-0.

Onions missed the fourth and final Test in South Africa, when he was replaced by Ryan Sidebottom, who has since returned home with a thigh injury.

Onions' injury opens the door for one of Tim Bresnan, Ajmal Shahzad, Liam Plunkett or Steven Finn to come into the Test side and there was some good news for England when it was confirmed by an ECB spokesman that Stuart Broad bowled ten overs in the nets "without discomfort", the ECB's website (www.ecb.co.uk) reported.

Fellow fast bowler James Anderson is also unavailable, missing the tour to recover from a knee injury.
