All-rounder Greg Smith is to leave Derbyshire at the end of the season after the club decided not to offer him a new contract.
Smith, 28, has had discussions with other counties and Derbyshire have accepted that their valuation of the player does not match that of the player.
"Our estimation of Greg’s market value is less than he can get elsewhere so good luck to him," Derbyshire chairman Chris Grant said.
"I don’t blame him for wanting to land the best deal he can but we are not going to get drawn into a bidding war.
"If there was a realistic chance of us signing him, we would have put a contract on the table, but we were not that close."
Smith first played for Derbyshire in 2006, playing 72 first-class and 109 one-day games while he also had a spell as captain towards the end of the 2010 season.
He was capped by the club in 2009.
