Guernsey Host Coaches Conference

9 December 2011
Guernsey Host Coaches Conference

The ICC Europe Coach Development Conference is to be held in Guernsey between the 13–15 January 2012.

The conference called ‘Player Potential to Performance’ is taking place at the Guernsey Cricket Indoor Centre; 26 coaches from 14 member countries have been nominated by each country board.

‘Player Potential to Performance’ is a player centred approach to Coach Development. The conference will take coaches on a journey from how to identify and nurture talented cricketers to implementing strength and conditioning programmes to support their development.

The Conference Programme consists of the following programme:-

Future of Coach Development
Offer an insight into the future of Coach Development and also outline the different player environments and the links to the role of the coach.

Talent Identification
Overview of the current understanding and approaches to ‘How’ and ‘What’ Coaches are looking for in talented players and ways to measure and select the best players for ongoing training and future match involvement.

Developing Talented Footballers (Football Association)
Offer an alternative approach and look at how the governing body of the game in England recognises emerging talent and natural potential in young players, from how the FA selects players to how it ensures that talented players are given the very best opportunities and support to reach their full potential.

Batting Against Spin
In depth review about playing spin bowling, mindset, options and execution.

Strength and Conditioning
Introduction to the role of Strength & Conditioning to Cricket and the importance of investing time into the ‘building’ of players which is the development and progression of players from a physical point of view, producing a well rounded athlete for the performance environment.

Leadership and Captaincy
Identifying leaders that have Captaincy potential and have the ability to lead others in a performance environment.

Pace Bowling – Pace Potential

Look at the role and requirements of a coach during the process of developing a pace bowler.

Chris Porter, ICC Europe Regional Development Officer and organiser of the conference, will be attending alongside Philip Hudson, ICC Europe Regional Performance Officer.  Porter explains what a perfect venue for this event Guernsey is, “This is the second time we have been to the Guernsey Indoor Cricket Centre, as earlier this year we delivered a similar coaches conference. The facility was perfect and the support we received from the Guernsey Cricket Board and ICG was first class.

“The Player Potential to Performance Conference is about taking coaches on a journey and offering them an insight into key topics that face young talented players. The player pathway is always changing as highlighted in the 2011 conference, however we need to ensure that coaches are in tune with the players and are able to support them during this journey.

“Overall it is great opportunity for coaches to meet the excellent presenters and other coaches to share ideas and experiences” Porter added.

There are participants from the following 14 countries: Austria; Belgium; Denmark; Finland; France; Germany; Gibraltar; Guernsey; Ireland; Isle of Man; Italy; Jersey; Netherlands and Scotland
