Hampshire have signed South African international fast bowler Friedel de Wet on a Kolpak contract for the 2011 season as they continue to bolster their squad.
De Wet played two Tests for South Africa against England in 2009, taking six wickets at 31 apiece at Centurion Park and Newlands, Cape Town.
He has also taken 202 first-class wickets at an average of 23.50 and has a good one-day record with 71 wickets in 63 matches.
“It has always been a dream of mine to play county cricket and I am therefore grateful for the opportunity Hampshire has given me," de Wet said.
“I feel the professional set up at Hampshire will allow me to further develop my game and I look forward to joining my new team mates as well as the coaches and supporting staff for the upcoming 2011 season.”
Manager Giles White added: “I am delighted that Friedel has joined the club for 2011. Due to injury there is some uncertainty over availability of current squad members and Friedel adds further quality to the bowling group.
“He comes highly recommended and with an excellent first class record. We look forward to welcoming him to the club.”
