Harlow Town are celebrating after making a winning debut in the CCC Cup with a five-wicket win over Hadleigh & Thundersley CC.
On paper the trip to SNEL Div 1’s Hadleigh & Thundersley CC looked a very tough challenge but one Harlow managed to overcome.
Skipper Ashley Alderson won the toss and decided to field first in the 45 overs a side match. The breakthrough came in only the second over as Daniel Farmer sent Tibbenham back and he was quickly followed by numbers two and three as Ashley Alderson found his range.
Nine for three became 39 for four and then 40 for five as wickets fell regularly. H&TCC struggled on a wicket that assisted the bowlers and only managed to stick around for 23 overs scraping together just 76 runs.
The Town’s fielding and bowling were excellent, the skipper picking up 4 for 28, Shaun Alderson chipped in with 3 for 12 and Dan Farmer who started the rout knocked over the last man finishing with 2 for 19.
With such an early end to the innings the teams turned straight round and saw Jason Gladwin and Matt Hurley back in the pavilion with only five runs on the board.
A 59-run partnership between Tom Price (34 not out) and Shiraz Ali (15) steadied the innings before Shiraz fell with the score on 64.
Charlie Coleman joined Price and the pair finished the innings off in just 19.2 overs to win by five wickets.
This was a comprehensive win for the Town against a strong opposition and they now look forward to the next round which will be decided by an open draw today (27th May).
