Harmison And Plunkett To Play In SuperSport Series

Durham fast bowlers Steve Harmison and Liam Plunkett will travel to South Africa to take part in two SuperSport matches for the Highveld Lions and Nashua Dolphins respectively, in November.

England bowling coach Ottis Gibson will also travel with the pair, who are both looking to force their way back into the national side, with Harmison recovering from a hernia operation.

An ECB spokesman told ecb.co.uk: “The plan is for Stephen to travel to South Africa at the end of this month and play two first-class matches for Highveld Lions in November.”

Durham coach Geoff Cook has denied reports that a four-month deal has been signed with Plunkett:

"There have been some talks but nothing has been finalised yet," Cook told ecb.co.uk.

"Liam will probably reach a stage where bowling in the nets cannot take him any further.

"Like all young fast bowlers he will benefit from getting some overs in, so a spell in first-class cricket somewhere over the winter would probably be of benefit to him."

The SuperSport series is South Africa's first-class, four-day competition in which six franchises compete. The reigning champions are the Nashua Titans.
