Australian fast bowler Ryan Harris is set for a three to four month spell on the sidelines after undergoing ankle surgery to repair the stress fracture he picked up during the Ashes Test at Melbourne.
He suffered the injury on the third day of the match, which Australia went on to lose by an innings and 157 runs as England retained the Ashes.
Cricket Australia doctor Trefor James explained: "Ryan was reviewed by a specialist in Melbourne this morning.
"The specialist confirmed that the best management for the stress fracture of his left ankle would be to undergo surgery. This will occur today and we expect Ryan's recovery time to be 3-4 months."
