Leaders Harrogate lost their unbeaten record in the Yorkshire ECB League when visitors Castleford beat them by 38 runs to gain their first win of the season.

Rotherham were another side to record their first win of the season. They beat Scarborough by seven wickets in a high-scoring match - a result that sent the East Coast club to the foot of the table.

Darren Harland (62) and James Pick (56) both scored half-centuries in Scarborough’s total of 230. Mark Cummins scored an unbeaten 74 while Gareth Purshouse hit 55 and Nathan Smith 47 not out as Castleford reached their target for the loss of three wickets.

Sheffield United, without a win, continued their unhappy start to the season when they lost at Doncaster after being bowled out for 81, Simon Widdup taking four for 21 while Graeme Attenborough (3-9) and James Stuart (3-35) each captured three wickets. Attenborough then opened the batting and scored 32 as Doncaster won by six wickets.

Yorkshire Academy lost by one wicket at Appleby Frodingham. Barney Gibson (45) and Eliot Callis (37) were top scorers in the Academy’s total of 207 for nine before Paul Bell led Frodingham to their narrow victory with 62 not out.
