Hegg Powers Bamford Fieldhouse To First Kingfisher Beer Cup Semi Final
The former Lancashire and England wicketkeeper Warren Hegg and fellow Lancashire and England team mate Chris Schofield are the driving force behind Bamford Fieldhouse reaching the semi final of this year’s inaugural Kingfisher Beer Cup.
The Rochdale, Saddleworth and District side secured their semi final place by beating Worcestershire based Kidderminster Victoria with Hegg contributing a well paced 40 runs in his side’s total of 212 for 6 . They will now travel to York Cricket Club who defeated Cuckney in an enthralling seven run victory.
York having won the Yorkshire League 9 times and appeared in the Final of the National Knockout last in 1975 will offer stern competition in what promises to be a tough Roses encounter. The York team are also coached by the former Yorkshire and England middle order batsman Jim Love who was responsible for transforming Scottish cricket eventually taking the team to the Commonwealth Games and the ICC World Cup.
In the South section of the Kingfisher Beer Cup Havant from the Southern Electric Hampshire League secured a 65 run win defeating Birmingham League champions Barnt Green.
Havant will entertain the winners of the final quarter final match due to be played this Sunday August 5th.West of England based Somerset based Bridgewater will be playing Essex League team Wansted and Snaresbrook, the spiritual club cricket home of Essex wicketkeeper batsman James Foster.
6 teams are a now a game away from securing a winner’s cheque of £5,000. Kingfisher Beer Cup Runners Up will receive £2, 000 with this year’s final due to take place Derbyshire CC’s county ground on September 16th.
The semi finalists of this year’s tournament will be attended by Professional Cricketers Association (PCA) Ambassadors who will adjudicate over Man of the Match awards for both games.
