Lancashire completed a remarkable fightback on the third and what turned out to be final day against MCC in Abu Dhabi. In spite of conceding a first innings lead of 67, the reigning county champions eased to a six-wicket victory after bowling MCC out for just 84 in their second innings.
Simon Kerrigan and Glen Chapple took the last two MCC wickets to fall this morning to end with figures of four for 31 and two for 14 respectively, which left Lancashire needing 152 to win in the fourth innings.
They began badly, losing Stephen Moore and Karl Brown in consecutive overs with the score on 11, as Ian Blackwell and Lewis Gregory struck in quick succession. Undeterred, Paul Horton and Luke Procter added 98 for the third wicket to take them to within sight of victory before Horton fell to the off-spin of Moeen Ali (one for 29) for 58.
Procter became Blackwell’s second victim when he was caught by Gareth Rees just shy of the target, and it was left to Steven Croft (24 not out) and Tom Smith (seven not out) to take them over the line and hand them their first win of what they will hope will be a successful 2012 season.
