ICC: Champions Trophy Will Be Held Next Year
International Cricket Council (ICC) President David Morgan has said that the Champions Trophy will be held next year in Pakistan.
The tournament, scheduled for 2008, was postponed after South Africa withdraw citing security concerns and four other teams were set to follow.
"We have commitments with our sponsors and therefore we need to host the championship within 13 months of the postponement," Morgan said.
The tournament was to take place from September 12th to 28th and its cancellation, along with Australia's withdrawal from a tour earlier in the year, has led Shoaib Malik, captain of Pakistan, to claim that he fears international isolation is on the cards for his country.
Australia are the reigning champions, beating the West Indies in 2006 in India.
