The International Cricket Council (ICC) will urgently undertake an independent review of its governance structure and processes, it has revealed following the second day of its annual executive board meeting in Hong Kong.
The ICC Governance Review Committee had recommended that a wide-ranging and independent review should cover all governance-related matters including possibly appointing independent directors.
This review will now take place before the next board meeting which is scheduled for October.
“I wholeheartedly welcome an independent review of the entire ICC governance and regard this as a major step to meet stakeholder expectations and the high standards of a world-class organisation," ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat said.
The Pakistan Task Team (PTT) presented a comprehensive report to the board and made 63 recommendations in the areas of governance, cricket administration, playing structure, financial viability and communications.
The board also received a request from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to consider hosting a global event in 2018 although this has not been discussed as no event is currently scheduled to take place in 2018.
"We fully understand the PCB request and we will consider if it is possible to host an event in Pakistan subject to the standard safety and security clearances," Lorgat said.
The board finally confirmed that they would be celebrating the occasion of the 2000th Test match which will begin on 21st July when England host India at Lord's.
"We are planning to mark the occasion by celebrating this fantastic milestone. Test cricket is the pinnacle format of our game and I am confident that this series will confirm this enduring format in front of full houses."
