India beat Derbyshire by five wickets on the third and final day of their warm-up match in Derby, chasing down a target of 142 in 36.3 overs.

India declared 16 runs ahead on 341 for six and after Derbyshire posted 156 for three, the Indians warmed up for the opening Test against England next week with a successful run chase.

Billy Godleman followed up his half-century in the first innings by making an unbeaten 56 in Derbyshire's second innings while Alex Hughes made 36 not out and Paul Borrington 29.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammad Shami and Stuart Binny took a wicket apiece.

After the early departure of Shikhar Dhawan for nine, the run chase was led by Murali Vijay and Ajinjya Rahane.

The former made 41 in 53 balls and the latter 39 in 65 balls and both would retire to allow others time at the crease.

Rohit Sharma (10) and Wriddhiman Saha (19) failed to make the best use of their opportunities before Gautam Gambhir (21 not out) and Ravindra Jadeja (0 not out) closed out the game.
