India 487 (Dhawan 119) beat
Sri Lanka 135 & 181 (Ashwin 4-68) by an innings and 171 runs
Third Test, Pallekele, day three
Mohammad Shami and Ravichandran Ashwin shared seven wickets between them as India dismissed Sri Lanka for 181 runs on day three and completed a victory by an innings and 171 runs in the third Test in Pallekele.
The result also means India have wrapped up the series 3-0, the first time they have done so away from home where three or more games were involved.
Sri Lanka started the day at 19 for one, still trailing India's first innings total by 331 runs. Ashwin (4-68) provided a head start for India as he had Dimuth Karunaratne (16) caught in the slips in the third over of the day.
Mohammad Shami (2-17) joined the wicket-taking act as he had night-watchman Malinda Pushpakumara (1) caught behind after a 32-ball vigil and soon also trapped Kusal Mendis (12) LBW.
Only Dinesh Chandimal (36), Angelo Mathews (35) and Niroshan Dickwella (41) showed some resistance but the writing was always on the wall for Sri Lanka as Ashwin snared three wickets out of the remaining six and helped India dismiss Sri Lanka for 181 in 74.3 overs.
Shikhar Dhawan was named the player of the series while Hardik Pandya was awarded the man of the match for his scintillating century in the only innings India batted.
The action now shifts to Dambulla where both the teams lock horns in the first of the five One-Day Internationals.
