India have released pace bowler Ishant Sharma from the squad in the ongoing Test series against Sri Lanka after missing out on the selection for the first Test at Eden Gardens.
Ishant's omission in the first Test came as India went for Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammad Shami and Umesh Yadav as their preferred seam attack.
The lanky pace bowler will now return back to his Ranji team Delhi, who he took over the captaincy from Gautam Gambhir ahead of the season. In his absence, it was Rishabh Pant, who captained Delhi in the previous game against Karnataka.
At stumps on day one, India were positioned 17 for three in the 11.5 overs possible on a rain-truncated day one with Suranga Lakmal picking all the three wickets.
