Glamorgan 224-4 (Ingram 114) beat
Essex 219-4 (Chopra 103no) by six wickets
South Group, Natwest T20 Blast, Chelmsford
An unbeaten century from Varun Chopra went in vain as Glamorgan riding on a fluent 114-run knock from Colin Ingram chased down 220 against Essex off the final delivery with six wickets in hand in their South Group Natwest T20 Blast encounter in Chelmsford.
Essex won the toss and decided to bat first. Dan Lawrence (1) fell in the third ball of the innings but Chopra (103 not out) and Tom Westley (29) took the attack to the opposition with their 70-run stand that came off just 37 deliveries.
Westley fell after facing 19 deliveries but Chopra carried on and added another 122 runs with Ravi Bopara (63) to take the score close to 200 in the 18th over.
Chopra completed his maiden T20 century in the final over of the innings as Essex posted a massive total of 219 for four in the 20 overs.
Glamorgan were dealt early blow in the chase when Aneurin Donald (2) was castled early but David Lloyd (20) and Ingram (114) brought the innings back on track as they were maintaining a run-rate of over 10.
Jacques Rudolph (9) struggled in his 11 ball innings before he was snared by Simon Harmer (1-50) but Chris Cooke (49) along with Ingram helped Glamorgan remain in the chase. Both Cooke and Ingram fell in the 19th over with the latter was run out by Mohammad Amir (1-37).
Glamorgan needed six runs off the final two deliveries and Craig Meschede (12 not out) smashed a four and a six of it to help the team cross the line. Glamorgan are positioned second in the South Group while Essex are placed eighth in the same table.
