Warwickshire batsman Darren Maddy has suffered a facial injury in South Africa and could need an operation to repair the damage.
Maddy, who has played three Tests, eight One-Day Internationals and four Twenty20 Internationals for England, was hit in the face during pre-season training in Bloemfontein and he is set to see a consultant on Thursday.
“It is always nasty to see a player suffer a facial blow but after consultation with the medical staff out here we are positive that Darren will make a quick and speedy recovery," Warwickshire Director of Cricket Ashley Giles told the club's official website (www.edgbaston.com).
"It is a blow for Madds after missing last summer with his knee but with his determination, I am confident that he will be back playing as soon as he can."
Maddy moved to Warwickshire from Leicestershire in 2007 and missed most of last season with a knee problem and he was also part of England's victorious Hong Kong Sixes team in 2008.
