Following injuries to Ajmal Shahzad and Chris Tremlett, England have called up Durham seamer Liam Plunkett to add bowling cover for the remainder of the One-Day International series in Australia.

Tremlett has a side strain and Shahzad a hamstring strain and both will now undergo further assessment and Plunkett will arrive from the West Indies, where he was with the England Lions squad.

“Liam Plunkett has been part of the England Performance Programme and England Lions squad this winter so we are confident that he will be ready to play a role for England should the need arise," England team director Andy Flower said.

"We are waiting for an update on the injuries to Ajmal Shahzad and Chris Tremlett but with our preparations for the World Cup starting in less than a fortnight we need to prioritise getting our World Cup squad members fit and ready for the start of the tournament.

“We have two games left in this series and will be looking to end the tour with strong performances in Sydney and Perth.”

England trail 4-1 in the series having also lost Tim Bresnan and Stuart Broad to injury earlier in the tour. They are evens to win the sixth match in the series on 2nd February with bet365, who make Australia 4/5 favourites.

Plunkett has played nine Tests and 28 One-Day Internationals for his country.

England In Australia 2010/11
Australia sealed a 6-1 series victory over England with a comprehensive 57-run victory in the seventh and final One-Day International in Perth. Half-centuries from Adam Voges and David Hussey steered Australia to 279 for seven and in reply, England were dismissed for 222 with Mitchell Johnson taking three for 18.
England's injury problems show no sign of abating following the news that all-rounder Paul Collingwood is to miss the seventh and final One-Day International against Australia with a back injury. He follows Graeme Swann, Tim Bresnan, Ajmal Shahzad and Chris Tremlett in leaving the one-day leg of the tour early while during the five-Test Ashes series, Stuart Broad was ruled out with a stomach injury.
Cameron White will captain Australia for the seventh and final One-Day International against England in Perth on 6th February after Michael Clarke and Shane Watson were rested for the game. With Australia leading the series 5-1, Cricket Australia (CA) has decided to hand Clarke and Watson, who both featured throughout the Ashes campaign, a rest ahead of the World Cup, calling up Adam Voges and Jason Krejza into the squad.
Injured fast bowlers Ajmal Shahzad and Chris Tremlett are to return home after they both picked up injuries during England's One-Day International series in Australia. Shahzad has been ruled out of the remainder of the series with a hamstring strain while Tremlett has a side strain and both will be given time to recover back in England.
Australia captain Michael Clarke scored 82 before his side successfully chased down 334 to beat England by two wickets in the sixth One-Day International in Sydney. Jonathan Trott's second century of the series for the tourists proved to be in vain as Australia charged to victory with four balls remaining, England unable to take advantage of Clarke's late dismissal.
Australian left-arm spinner Xavier Doherty has become the latest player to pick up an injury during the ongoing seven-match series against England. Doherty has a back problem and has been ruled out of the remaining two matches, although there was some good news to report for Australia as Ricky Ponting came through his first training session since fracturing a finger during the Ashes.
