The International Cricket Council (ICC) are due to meet with the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in November to discuss plans for a Test cricket world championship that will aim to renew interest in the longest format of the game.
Diminishing crowds and multiple players abandoning the Test cricket arena in favour of the more lucrative world of Twenty20 have meant that Test cricket is in danger of losing the primacy that it is seen to have by purists of the game. With advances in all other areas of the game, Test cricket has been somewhat left behind, but the ICC is hoping a Test cricket championship will change this.
The MCC is said to be in favour of an eight nation tournament, where best of three match series will give semi finalists and finalists from the top ranked teams with the final to be perhaps played at Lord's. No definite plans have been decided yet, but the two organizations will hope to find a solution from their discussions in November.
A Test world championship was also recommended by the MCC World Committee, which met last month at Lord's.
