Australia left-arm fast bowler Nathan Bracken is to undergo knee surgery after consultations this week with specialists in Melbourne and Sydney.
Bracken had been ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy having picked up a knee injury in England and returned home, his place in the 15-man squad taken by Doug Bollinger.
Cricket Australia (CA) doctor Trefor James confirmed in a statement that the surgery would take place in the next seven days.
“Following consultation with knee specialists, Nathan has been booked in for arthroscopic surgery next week," he said.
“His progress following surgery will be monitored for a return to training in due course.”
Bracken has become a key member of Australia's One-Day International side, taking 174 wickets in 116 matches and being part of the side which won the 2006 Champions Trophy and 2007 World Cup.
