Deccan Chargers captain Kumar Sangakkara has been fined $US 20,000 after his side were guilty of bowling their overs too slowly during their win against Pune Warriors.

Deccan won the match by 18 runs - their first triumph of the campaign - but were deemed to be one over behind the required rate when time allowances were taken into account.

As it was Sangakkara's first such offence of the season, he was fined £US 20,000.

The Chargers are next in action when they play Mumbai Indians on Sunday (29th April).

The franchise was put up for sale after Deccan Chronicle Holdings Ltd had been unable to meet payment obligations and despite a sale going through, the Indian board (BCCI) has terminated their contract.

Former Deccan Chargers Chief Executive Tim Wright is suing the Indian Premier League franchise for £10 million (88 crores) for breach of contract. Wright left the Chargers in January 2009 claiming breach of contract - which included a severance clause of £10 million. In February 2009, the Chargers claimed Wright had 'absconded'.
