Chennai Super Kings proved that you can't keep a good team down, or not for long anyway, by beating Kings XI Punjab by 10 wickets to get off the mark in the Indian Premier League 2013 in Mohali.

Kings XI Punjab started well but then faded badly to be bowled out for 138 and in reply Chennai closed on 139 without loss in 17.2 overs.

David Hussey (41) and Gurkeerat Singh (31) were the only major contributors for the home side, enabling Chennai the luxury of a steady start but with Michael Hussey and Murali Vijay striking imperious half-centuries they still were able to ease home in the end, with 22 balls to spare.

Both Kings XI openers Mandeep Singh and Adam Gilchrist fell for nine to Dirk Nannes but after Manan Vohra fell to Ravi Jadeja for 16, Hussey and Gurkeerat put on 56 for the fourth wicket to put Kings XI in a decent position.

They were unable to capitalise as Chennai showed their class in the field, Dwayne Bravo returning three for 27, Chris Morris two for 27 and Nannes two for 17 as a string of batsmen holed out trying to find the boundary.

No other batsman could reach double figures as Kings XI were bowled out for 139 in 19.5 overs.

Hussey and Vijay saw off an early test from Praveen Kumar and Ryan Harris before accelerating towards what would eventually be the highest IPL partnership in Mohali and just the fifth 10-wicket win in IPL history.

Kings XI were a little sloppy in the field - just what they didn't need defending a modest score - and were perhaps unlucky not to see Hussey dismissed when he looked to have been run out by Ryan Harris.

He went on to make 86 not out in 54 balls with 11 fours and two sixes, one straight down the ground and one over midwicket with the game nearing its end.

Vijay reached his half-century shortly before the end of the match, closing on 50 in as many balls with three fours and one straight six.
