The auction for the sixth season of the Indian Premier League will be held on 3rd February in Chennai, according to reports and social media posts.

IPL Chief Executive Officer Sundar Raman tweeted the following: "Pepsi IPL auction will be held on 3rd Feb in Chennai starting 11am IST."

Around 40 players will be available for auction including Australian captain Michael Clarke.

Kolkata Knight Riders are the reigning champions and the other previous winners are Rajasthan Royals (2008), Deccan Chargers (2009) and Chennai Super Kings (2010, 2011).

The Chargers have been superceded by the Sunrisers Hyderabad and plenty of interest will surround them as they look to build a team capable of challenging after Chargers' unexpected title success in the second season was followed up by several disappointing campaigns.
