Tamim Iqbal will miss the ODI series as he recovers from wrist surgery

Tamim Iqbal has undergone wrist surgery which will rule him out of the upcoming five-match One-Day International series against New Zealand while former captain Mohammad Ashraful has been dropped.

Tamim had been struggling with the wrist problem throughout the year and is now recovering after a successful operation and he is replaced in the squad by fellow opening batsman Shahriar Nafees.

Ashraful continues to struggle for runs and he has been left out as the Bangladesh selectors preferring Jahurul Islam and Roqibul Hasan as specialist batsmen.

The series begins on 5th October and runs to 17th October with all five matches taking place in Mirpur.

Shane Jurgensen Appointed Bangladesh Head Coach

Former Western Australia, Tasmania and Queensland fast-bowler Shane Jurgensen has been appointed as head coach of Bangladesh on a permanent basis. The 36 year-old has been Bangladesh's interim coach since Richard Pybus quit last October and has been appointed for the rest of the year.

Richard Pybus has stepped down as coach of Bangladesh, just five months after he was appointed to the job in May, when he succeeded Stuart Law. Englishman Pybus, who previously coached Pakistan, Middlesex and Titans as well as Kolkata Knight Riders, led the side during the recent ICC World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka, where they failed to reach the Super Eight stage.

Former Bangladesh cricketer Shariful Haque has been banned by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for an indefinite period after allegations made about him by current Bangladesh fast-bowler Mashrafe Mortaza relating to spot-fixing were substantiated. Mortaza made the allegations against him prior to the start of the Bangladesh Premier League, claiming that he had been approached by the 36 year-old with a spot-fixing offer.

Bangladesh Bounce Back With Easy Win

Bangladesh bounced back from their mauling at the hands of Richie Berrington yesterday to record a comfortable victory over the Netherlands in Voorburg as their tour of northern Europe continued. Tamim Iqbal ended unbeaten on 69 as they chased down the home side's total of 144 for seven with two overs to spare.

A team of Bangladesh Members of the Parliament headed by Nazmul Hassan MP visited London to play a friendly cricket match with British Members of the Parliament, winning their one-day game by 47 runs. Invited by former Prime Minister Sir John Major and Conservative MPs, the delegation exchanged views with the All Party Parliamentary committee and also Conservative Party MPs in the House of Commons.
